Hi all,
We've finally got some dates for travel meets. This follows the cancellation of a meet we'd hoped to attend in Peace River. Since we won't be going there, I'm very pleased to announce that swimmers from Peace River will be attending our Mother's Day Meet May 10-12!
Meanwhile, Coach Carol has identified two meets our swimmers could attend:
- Edson Orcas Splash & Dash meet in Edson, Alta., April 6-7. Cubs and above are invited to travel unaccompanied to this two-day, short-course (that is, 25-metre pool) meet. This meet is also suitable for younger swimmers traveling with a parent. If you'd like your swimmer to join unaccompanied, they'll need to be booked on AC 8114 leaving Yellowknife for Edmonton at 7 am Friday, April 5, returning on AC 8113 Edmonton to Yellowknife leaving at 6:20 pm on Monday, April 7.
- Wolfpack Invitational in Kamloops, BC, June 7-9. Cubs and above are again invited to travel unaccompanied to this long-course (50-metre pool) three-day meet.
Several of our swimmers are also attending Alberta provincials March 1-3 in Edmonton. Congratulations!
NWT Territorial meet
And a reminder of our upcoming territorial swim meet Feb. 9-11.
The meet runs Friday 4-6:30 pm, Saturday noon to 6 pm (though usually end earlier) and Sunday 6 am to noon (again, we usually wrap up a bit earlier).
This year we are fortunate to be inviting swimmers from Inuvik and Hay River! We'll also be doing our big 50/50 draw so be sure to get your tickets in.
As always, we'll need lots of volunteers to make this meet happen. Remy has already shared a link to the job signup sheet. The entry-level position is timer; it's easy to learn and a great way to watch the swimming.
Heat sheets for the meet will be posted to Meet Mobile on Feb. 7.
For those who don't know, Meet Mobile is a very handy swimming app that allows you to follow swim events and get results in real-time. It's especially useful at away meets, but is also handy just to keep track of what's going on in territorials. The app is free to download from the App Store; it'll eventually ask for a small fee to get results; up to you if you want to pay this.
Fundraising and travel
A reminder to all families who have fundraised for travel purposes to please spend your fundraising money for these meets. If you aren't sure how much money you've fundraised or what you still owe the club, contact Angie Viloria, who keeps a spreadsheet with this information.
We will also make this spreadsheet available at the territorial swim meet, Feb. 9-11.

We are aiming to get to zero balance on this spreadsheet by June 30, 2024, so please plan to claim your funds with travel receipts by that date.
Board update and fundraising policy
Speaking of fundraising, our board met on Jan. 30 and struck a committee to help design our new fundraising policy, which we hope to put into effect next year (fall 2024).
The committee will meet Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. at the Co-op boardroom (behind the black doors at the back of the store by the deli) to begin work on this. If you'd like to take part, please join us!

AGM: April 11
The board also set a date for our 2022-2023 annual general meeting, which was delayed due to delays in our financial statements. We will hold this meeting at 7 pm on Thursday, April 11.
This will be a chance to learn more about the club and run in elections. If you'd like to know more about any of this, please reach out: [email protected] or 446-1432.
Thanks to several who have expressed an interest already.
Several board positions will be up for election on April 11 but we are particularly seeking people interested in working with our registrar and our treasurer as mentees.
Both positions are key to our operations and we want to make sure we have some redundancy here.
If either of these roles interest you, please get in touch.
We are also seeking someone to take over the role of communications (myself) and conflict resolution, as well as a member-at-large.
