November 15-16th - Annual Splashathon.
This is a super-fun fundraiser where the swimmers collect pledges to swim as far as they can in 2 or 3 hours. The focus is having fun and pushing to meet new goals. It is a great first fundraiser. We will be handing out Pledge Forms on Wednesday. We are still looking for a volunteer to help coordinate this fundraiser. Please let Coach Carol 1(867)445-1476 know if you would like to take this on.
November 23-24th - Hay River Meet
This meet is suitable for any swimmers who can swim 25 meters confidently and independently - generally Dolphins 2- Bronze level. This is the first meet that Hay River has put on in over 8 years. We would really like to support this meet to encourage their growth. It is one of the few meets we attend with 25 m events suitable for younger swimmers. Please ask your Coaches if you would like to ensure the meet is right for your athlete. There will be 3 or 4 YKPBSC coaches attending. It will be a very positive first experience as a travel meet.
This meet is NOT being offered as a non-accompanied meet. Parents will be responsible for finding transportation and accommodation for their children. The meet runs from 11:00 Saturday morning - approximately 2:00 on Sunday afternoon.
For your convenience, we have made a block booking at the Ptarmigan Inn under the Polar Bear Swim Club name. ($190 per night for Single Queen) Please confirm your reservation no later than 1 November. 1 (867) 874-6781. Please note this is the same weekend that there will be a Men's Rec Hockey Tournament in Hay River and therefore accommodation may be difficult to procure.
The meet package is attached. All interested athletes will need to inform their Coaches prior to 4 November in order to make entry selections.
December 6-8th - Sandy Ferris Meet in Calgary
This meet is most suitable for Sharks, Cubs, Bronze, Silver and Gold. It is a three day meet which is VERY long for inexperienced swimmers. There are no 25 metre events available. We will take swimmers Cubs and above as unattended swimmers. That is ONLY possible if they are travelling on the same flights as coaches. Flights for this meet are:
WS222 - 05 December leaving YK 14:30 en route Calgary arrival 16:52
WS221 - 09 December leaving Calgary 11:15 enroute YK arrival 1:40
Accommodations will be the Ramada Plaza by Wyndham in downtown Calgary. We are in the process of securing team meals in the hotel and there will be further info forthcoming regarding hotel room block bookings as well as an ability to opt in to the meal plan. Intentions are to keep prices as low as possible. Therefore, interest should be communicated to coaches by No Later than 1 November.
No current meet package is available but attached is Last Year's Meet Package for reference. The meet will run in a similar fashion. Swimmers wishing to attend the Canada Summer Games 2025 are strongly encouraged to attend this event.
Please contact Coach Carol 1 (867) 445-1476 for any clarifying questions.
