Swim Updates - Meets, Splashathon and Tadpole Schedule

Friday Night at the Races - November 1st

*volunteers needed - just show up*

This week we will have Friday Night at the Races for Cubs, Bronze, Silver and Gold. We will be swimming the more complicated Butterfly and Breaststroke events. These are "courage" events. If you have an athlete swimming, please make a concerted effort to come out and cheer on your swimmer. We need at least 10 volunteers to time. As Senior Spike-It will be going on at the high-school, many of our more experienced swimmers and parents won't be available, so focus will be on the younger Cubs/Bronze swimmers who will be attempting these tougher events in a positive competitive environment. Every day the swimmers are learning new techniques and we are trying to test these skills in the races. Races start at 5:00 and go for less than 90 minutes. Your support is greatly appreciated.

 

Hay River Swim Meet *let your coach know by November 1st*

Hay River Swim Meet will be held 22/23 November. Please make sure to inform your Coach of your swimmer's intention to travel No Later Than 1 November. There are still rooms available under the YKPBSC Block Booking at the Ptarmigan Inn. Those rooms will be released to the general public after the 1 November. This was once an annual event and we are hoping to support the Hay River Club so that our younger swimmers will have an affordable racing opportunity.

 

Splashathon - November 15-16th 

Swimathon has quietly crept up on us, this year. The fall Swimathon is one of our biggest fundraisers. It will happen on the 15/16 November. Swimmers will swim as many lengths as possible in 2.5 hours. This is a fun event where parents get to come and see how fantastically far their swimmer's abilities have progressed. Your swimmer should have received a Pledge Sheet in their swim bag. I have attachesd a soft copy - likely less soggy to this email. We are raising funds to pay for our pool time which costs upwards of $60, 000 each year. I particularly like this fundraiser as the entire team gets behind it from the youngest to the oldest. We have an intersquad competition - the squad that raises the most money gets a Pizza Pool Party during practice. Please help support your swimmer. (My favourite part of this fundraiser is that the children are involved and I get most of the fundraising fee responsibility weighed off early in the season.)

 

Sandy Ferris Meet *let your coach know by November 1st*

Last call for Sandy Ferris Calgary Meet 5-9 December is coming up fast. Please let your Coach know if you plan to attend No Later than 1 November if you plan to attend or if your athlete will travel unattended.

 

Lastly, to note, there will be  NO swimming on 11 November to observe Remembrance Day. Additionally. we have a Coaching conflict on 13 November such that our Junior Level coaches are unable to supervise due to out of town travel. For that reason, there will be  NO swimming for Dolphins, Belugas, Sharks, Cubs or Bronze on 13 November. We are extremely sorry for this development but wish Coach Tyree the best in advancing her professional Coaching certification.

 

And finally, as promised,  Tadpole Swimming Schedule:

 

1 November - modified due to Friday Night at the Races - lessons to go at 4/4:30 hopefully they get to swim at 5:00 race if they can stay!!

 

8 November - lessons as usual

 

15 November - Swimathon weekend. Tadpoles will swim their swimathon at 8-9:00 on Saturday morning (so as not to be run over by the insane number of swimmers in the pool.) So NO swimming of Friday afternoon but please come on Saturday - this is one of my favourite events - the kids LOVE it!!

 

22 November - No swimming for Tadpoles as YKPBSC attending Hay River Swim Meet

 

29 November - swimming as usual

 

6 December - no swimming due to YKPBSC attending Sandy Ferris Meet in Calgary

 

13 December - Polar Pup Meet - first positive experience racing for Tadpoles and Dolphins - Super Exciting and Fun!!

 

21 December - modified due to last Friday Night at the Races. 

 

Swimming resumes for Tadpoles 17 January  (hopefully in the new Aquatic Centre!!)
