Swim Updates on the pool, coaching, meets and the board
Hello Swim Families,
We hope everyone has been enjoying your March Break. We are back to swimming on Monday, March 31st, and we have many important updates for you.
We are moving! (New Aquatic Centre is opening soon)
The City has confirmed that we will continue swimming at RIMP until April 13th.
City staff are hard at work to get us into the new Aquatic Centre, but we don’t have a firm opening date yet. We are hopeful that there will be limited downtime without a pool and will provide more information as we get it.
Coaching Staff
Our amazing coaching team has been hard at work. As we work through the remainder of the season, our coaches are collaborating on ensuring your swimmers don’t miss a beat.
We are happy to announce that Viktor Terlaky will be rejoining the club to coach Silver Squad. In addition, John Colford, a former YKPBSC coach who some of you may know, has agreed to return to coaching for our Gold Squad.
Swim Meet Updates
Peace River Swim Meet (April 12-13th) will be proceeding. A big thank you to the Hay River coaching staff who have agreed to have our YKPBSC swimmers under them for this meet.
We are actively pursuing a long-course race in early June for our faster swimmers to make up for having to withdraw from the Victoria meet. We will communicate as more information becomes available.
The YKPBSC Mother’s Day Meet will be dependent on the pool availability. We will continue to work towards this date, but may have to adjust.
Board Changes
Remy Leclerc has stepped down from his role as President of YKPBSC. Both YKPBSC and NWT Swimming have a lot of important work moving forward, with Remy leading this work from the NWT Swimming side. We would like to thank Remy for his dedication and hard work for many years in support of the YKPBSC, and we are pleased he will stay on the Board for the time being.
Joel Gowman has accepted the role of Interim President until the next Annual General Meeting. Thank you Joel for taking on this leadership role.
Moving Forward
As the Board, we know there has been a lot of significant change over recent months, and we continue to face uncertainty with the move. The Board is looking at options to hold a ‘town hall’ information session in the coming weeks to give parents an opportunity to ask questions and bring forward ideas.
We are also working diligently to prepare for our next Annual General Meeting. This will include an election, and we have several important roles that will be coming up. If you are interested in getting more involved in the Board, please feel free to reach out to any of the Board members to discuss.
We know that all of these changes may be difficult for our swim families, and as your Board, we are doing our best to make this bumpy transition as smooth as we can. We appreciate all of your patience and support as we work towards the end of our 2024-25 season.
