This educational grants monies will be used to specifically focus on the training of new coaches and to further hone the skills of our current coaches! We recognize that our team growth is limited by the number of available trained coaches and have been actively seeking ways to address this issue. Our season ended with lots of excitement at the Junior Olympics in beautiful Portland, Oregon. It was a spectacular venue, accompanied by unbelievably nice weather! The 12U and Youth teams competed first. They had some strong performances, highlighted with our Youth teams athlete's impressive 7th place finish in the Solo division. Swimkins alumni Carly Ermer, swimming with the University of Incarnate Word Cardinals, won the NCAA National Championship in Artistic Swimming. UIW won its first ever national championship, defeating powerhouse programs including Stanford, Ohio State, Florida, UCLA, and Wheaton College. Swimkins actively assists our athletes in preparing and earning placement and scholarships in NCAA Division I, II and III programs in universities across the United States. The team’s coaches and board of directors wanted to give everyone a recap of the our success for this seasons final competition. The 2023 Junior Olympics were held June 28-July 3 in Hampton Virginia. Our athletes traveled down with their respective age groups and were housed in two different short term vacation rental homes. Once again, another Swimkins athlete has been named to Team USA. In June, Ashley Latchford was named to the Junior National Team training squad. This past September Ashley committed to the team and moved to California, where she is training full time with the top swimmers in the country. Training with Team USA is rigorous. This summer, ten young athletes traveled to Windsor, Canada to represent the United States in the 2019 UANA Pan American Artistic Swimming Championships. Of the ten athletes named to the team, three of them were Buffalo Swimkins: Mia Canna, Caitlin McNamara and Jamie Starck. The Swimkins’ combo routine, swimming to the music of “West Side Story,” won the gold medal for the fourth year in a row at the 2019 Junior Olympics for Synchronized Swimming, hosted in Tonawanda last week.
