Life Time Oregon Swim Team Weekly Update: 6/5/2024

Danny Weinberg

Hello Swim Team!

The Summer Swim Team is off to a fantastic start! Welcome to our weekly update, which contains all the essential information for our team. As this is the first update of the summer, there is quite a bit to cover.

Quick Reminders:

  • Practice Attendance: With the summer season underway, swimmers on the summer swim team or the USA team can attend as many practices as they like. We encourage you to try and get your swimmer to practice 5-10 minutes before the scheduled start time. While it can be challenging for those early times, arriving early allows us to have a brief meeting and review skills to prepare the swimmers for practice.

  • Drop-Off Procedures: According to Life Time management and the Oregon Health Authority (OHA), all children under 14 must have adult supervision on the pool deck unless they are participating in swim practice. Swimmers 13 and under must be supervised by an adult outside of practice times if they stay on the deck.

  • USA Team: Please order a snorkel and fins if you haven't yet. These are available under the "Team Apparel and Equipment" tab on our website. Please make sure to mark your snorkel with a piece of duct tape or your name. Also make sure you start bringing a water bottle to practice!

Albany Summer Blast Meet Recap (June 1-2):

Six USA team members traveled to Albany to compete in the Albany Summer Blast. Special congratulations to Aurelia Anderson, who competed in her first long course meet! A long course pool is 50 meters in length, which is significantly longer than the 25-yard pools our swimmers are more accustomed to. Here are some individual highlights:

  • Aurelia Anderson: Had an awesome first long course meet and finished 6th in the 100 Back for 9-10 girls.

  • Simon Boariu: Competed in six strong swims and challenged himself with some longer races. Simon finished 1st in the 50 Back, 50 Breast, and 50 Fly for 11-12 boys.

  • Izzy Da Cruz: Swam a great 50 Fly in her first time ever swimming this race in a long course pool.

  • Bella Jones: Finished 5th in the 200 Free and 6th in the 100 Back for 13-14 girls. Bella's 100 Back time was 8 seconds faster than her previous best set in April.

  • Morgan Lee: Competed in six events over two days, dropping significant time in the 50 Back and 50 Breast.

  • Patrick Schremer: Had two fantastic days, setting new best times in the 50 Back, 50 Breast, and 100 Free. He finished 3rd in the 50 Free for 9-10 boys.

SafeSport Certification:

Thank you to all our USA team members and parents who completed the Safe Sport Training module. We are proud to announce that we have officially become the 14th team in Oregon to earn this certification, showcasing our commitment to our athletes' safety. While we are recognized for the next two years, we still highly encourage all 13&O USA team members and USA team parents to complete the course. You can access the information HERE.

Summer Swim Team Caps:

All summer swim team participants will receive one official Life Time Summer Swim team cap. We have already handed out a few, so if you haven't received one yet, please find Coach Danny before or after practice.

Summer Swim Team T-Shirts:

We hope to order our summer swim team T-shirts by the end of next week, 6.14. Please refer to the following information:

  • New Participants: If you started this week, you don’t need to do anything! We have your T-shirt sizes, and you will automatically receive a T-shirt for being part of the Summer Swim Team!

  • Previous Developmental Team Members: You will automatically receive a T-shirt, but we ask that you confirm or update your T-shirt size on our Team Unify website. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to do this:

USA Team members are welcome to purchase a Summer Swim Team T-shirt for an additional cost of $20, which will be billed to your LT account. Please complete this form by Friday, June 14th, if you are interested.

  • Friday, July 26th- 4:30-6:30 PM

All swimmers on our summer swim team and our USA team are encouraged to participate in these competitions, which promise to be a ton of fun!

Sign-Up for Swimmingly:

All swimmers need to either create an account with Swimmingly (new participants) or register for the summer season (returning participants). Swimmingly helps us set up and track the summer swim meets we host at Life Time. There is no additional cost to create an account. Please follow the instructions below to complete this process:

Returning Parents with an active Swimmingly account: Step-by-step instructions to register and sign-up your swimmer(s) using the Club Registration Code.

New Parents without an active Swimmingly account: Step-by-step instructions to register and sign-up your swimmer(s) using the Club Registration Code.

Summer USA Meets (USA Team):

Become an Official (USA Team):

Becoming an official is a highly effective way to volunteer and support our team. We always need officials to help our meets run smoothly.  Benefits include free food, drinks, preferential parking, and the best view of the pool! Plus, Life Time won't charge meet fees for your swimmers at the meets you work.

When our team goes to a meet we are expected to provide officials. Oregon Swimming recommends that we provide one official for every 10 entered athletes.  Our team is expected to help make the meet legal. Teams that don’t have officials often don't get asked to meets. Swimmers from bronze to senior levels all need to have parents officiating so that all the meets we attend as a club are covered.

Contact Coach Danny to get started.

That concludes this lengthy email!  Please let us know if you have any questions!

See you at the pool!
