Life Time Oregon Weekly Update: Important Info Regarding Friday's Meet and AM practices!

Danny Weinberg

Hello Swim Team!

Summer is here (though it doesn't really feel like it today)! Please read our weekly update as it has a lots of information about Friday’s first summer swim meet!

Quick Items/ Reminders:

  • Coach Danny-Out of Town: I will be out of town from June 22nd-June 29th.  Please reach out to Coach Julie ([email protected]) with all swim team related quotations and needs.

  • Practice Attendance: With the summer season underway, swimmers on the summer swim team or the USA team can attend as many practices as they like. We encourage you to try and get your swimmer to practice 5-10 minutes before the scheduled start time. While it can be challenging for those early times, arriving early allows us to have a brief meeting and review skills to prepare the swimmers for practice. Here is our SUMMER PRACTICE SCHEDULE.

  • Tuesday/ Thursday AM Summer Camp:  Many of our summer swim team participants are also enrolled in Lifetime’s summer camp.  Instead of taking swim lessons these swimmers will be offered a short 30 minute swim team practice on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 10:00-10:30 AM.  There also will be campers who were assessed as 401/501 swimmers who be part of the swim team group. Summer swim team members who are not campers are permitted to practice at these times too if they have a scheduling conflict and cannot attend evening practices.  Ultimately, these practices will be more crowded and are only 30 minutes so we prefer that those without conflicts attend the evening practice.  Since this is the first full week of summer camp we are not permitting swimmers who are not in summer camp to attend these practices to help the camp and aquatic staff get organized.  Starting on Tuesday, 6.25 this will be an option.  You must email Coach Danny prior to the practice to be able to attend.

  • Tuesday AM Practices- USA Team: Since, we will have a swim coach on deck at this time we are allowing USA swimmers  to come and complete a make-up practice at this time from 10:00–11:00 AM.  These swimmers will mostly be on their own but will be provided a lane and workout in the indoor lap pool.  We recommend that USA team members try to attend evening practices, but this is an option to get another practice in if some evening times are not possible.  USA swimmers must email Coach Danny prior to the practice if they are planning to attend Tuesday and Thursday morning sessions.  This arrangement will begin on Tuesday, 6.18.

  • Friday AM Practice- USA Team: Starting on Friday, 6.21, USA team members will be offered an additional practice in the outdoor lap pool.  This practice will run from 8:30-9:45 AM (Bronze) and 8:30-10:00 AM (Silver).  We hope that many of you can attend.

  • Drop-Off Procedures: According to Life Time management and the Oregon Health Authority (OHA), all children under 14 must have adult supervision on the pool deck unless they are participating in swim practice. Swimmers 13 and under must be supervised by an adult outside of practice times if they stay on the deck. Swimmers who are 13&U are not permitted to play in the leisure pools before or after practice if they are not being supervised by an adult.

  • USA Team: Please order a snorkel and fins if you haven't yet. These are available under the "Team Apparel and Equipment" tab on our website. Please make sure to mark your snorkel with a piece of duct tape or your name. Also make sure you start bringing a water bottle to practice!

Summer USA Meets (USA Team):

Become an Official (USA Team):

Becoming an official is a highly effective way to volunteer and support our team. We always need officials to help our meets run smoothly.  Benefits include free food, drinks, preferential parking, and the best view of the pool! Plus, Life Time won't charge meet fees for your swimmers at the meets you work.

When our team goes to a meet we are expected to provide officials. Oregon Swimming recommends that we provide one official for every 10 entered athletes.  Our team is expected to help make the meet legal. Teams that don’t have officials often don't get asked to meets. Swimmers from bronze to senior levels all need to have parents officiating so that all the meets we attend as a club are covered.

Contact Coach Danny to get started.

Please let us know if you have any questions!

See you at the pool!
