Life Time Oregon Weekly Update: 9.15.24

Danny Weinberg

Hello Team,

It was an awesome second week!  We are looking forward to our first developmental swim meet on Friday.  Please read this email for your weekly swim team updates.

Development Meet - Friday, September 20th

Our first developmental meet, the Season Kick-Off is on Friday, September 20th. Warm-Ups for the meet will begin at 5:00 PM and the meet will start at 5:30 PM.  Please read more about the meet below:

Key Information:

  • This meet is a great opportunity for all team members. Newer swimmers can gain comfort with competing and learn how swim meets work, while more experienced swimmers can enjoy some early-season racing in a relaxed environment.

  • For USA team members competing in the Forest Grove Pentathlon (September 27th-28th), this is a perfect chance to practice IM events like the 100 IM (10 & Under) or 200 IM (11 & Over) as many of you will be competing in these races at that meet.

  • An email was sent to all swimmers registered with Swimmingly on September 15, 2024. If you didn’t receive it, you may need to register with Swimmingly.

To participate in our developmental meets, all swimmers must create an account with Swimmingly (for new participants) or register for the 2024-25 Short Course Season (for returning participants). Swimmingly is our tool for organizing meets, and there's no extra cost. Use the registration link and code below:

More information will be sent out later in the week regarding this meet, but we hope to see you all there!

Team Gear

Please make sure to order your practice equipment and start bringing it as soon as possible. With our growing team, we don't have enough fins and kickboards for everyone on busier nights. Below is the list of equipment needed for each group:

  • Development 1 & 2: Mesh Bag, Kickboard, Long Training Fins, Rubber Ducky

  • Bronze: Mesh Bag, Kickboard, Long Fins, Swim Snorkel (Junior), Rubber Ducky

  • Silver: Mesh Bag, Kickboard, Long Fins, Pull Buoy, Paddles (Finis), Rubber Ducky

  • Gold: Mesh Bag, Kickboard, Short Fins, Pull Buoy, Paddles (Finis), Rubber Ducky

Note: Coaches will provide rubber duckies for those who don’t have one, though many of you may have collected them from past meets.

You can purchase these items from our Team Store or any vendor you prefer (Amazon is often quicker!). All USA team members (Bronze, Silver, Gold) should also bring a water bottle to every practice.

Swimsuits and Goggles:

For our USA team swimmers (Bronze, Silver, Gold), please make sure to have a suit designed for competitive swimming:

  • Girls: A one-piece competition suit.

  • Boys: Jammer or brief.

We encourage all our developmental swimmers to wear these suits too, but we understand it might be a new experience for some of our athletes and is not a hard requirement.  Rash guard shirts do affect swimming efficiency so we try to transition those out in the first few weeks if possible.

For USA competitions, we have a special team suit that looks fantastic in the water!  Since these suits are embroidered, they’re non-refundable, but don’t worry — we have a sizing kit at the pool to help you find the perfect fit! Just contact Coach Julie or me to set up a time to try one on.

All swimmers should have a couple of pairs of goggles on hand (we recommend avoiding large scuba masks). And for those with longer hair, a swim cap is highly recommended! Each swimmer gets a free latex cap, and we have silicone caps available for purchase if you prefer.

We’ve noticed a few swimmers arriving at practice without goggles or with ones that need a bit of fixing. When this happens, our assistant coaches often end up spending time adjusting goggles or finding extra pairs instead of focusing on coaching our swimmers. To help us keep practices running smoothly and give everyone the attention they deserve, please ensure your swimmer has a properly fitted pair of goggles before they arrive on the pool deck. Thanks for your help in making our practices as effective and fun as possible!

Please Update Your T-Shirt Sizes in Team Unify

We're excited to announce that we'll be ordering our team T-shirts in October! To make sure every swimmer gets the perfect fit, please take a moment to update your swimmer’s shirt size on our Team Unify website by Monday, September 30th. Remember, we offer both youth and adult sizes—youth sizes are labeled as Youth Small, Youth Medium, etc., while adult sizes are simply S, M, etc. Thank you for helping us get everyone geared up and ready to represent our team spirit!

Upcoming USA Meets

Drop-Off Information

Per Life Time and Oregon Health Authority guidelines, all children under 14 need adult supervision on the pool deck unless they're in practice. Swimmers aged 13 and under must be supervised outside of practice times and aren’t allowed in leisure pools before or after practice unless an adult is present. Our coaches will supervise your child from 10 minutes before practice until the end.

One-Time Admin Fee Charged in October

There is a one-time annual $60 admin fee that will be billed to each swimmer’s account on October 1st. This fee covers extras like caps, t-shirts, additional gear, and prizes for our swim meets.

Looking forward to a great week, and our first developmental meet on Friday!
