| About Swim Team Boosters The Swim Team Boosters is composed of parents, families, and friends of the MAC Swim Team. The job of the Boosters is to support our swimmers, coaches, and team to be successful. In order to create a positive environment where excellence is inevitable, we need the support and dedication of MAC Swim Team parents. Your child is swimming with one of the best teams in the State of Oregon and part of that success is due to the parent volunteers! We try to have a fun time while doing whatever we are doing to support the team!. If you are a parent of a MAC competitive swimmer, a former swimmer, or friend of MAC swimming, you are a Booster!! But what does the Boosters really do? In a nutshell, we raise money to support the team and then spend that money on the team. We plan and run team events and fundraisers. We provide the necessary volunteer support for the swim team to succeed. What do Boosters funds go to exactly? Here are some examples of where we use Boosters' Funds: cover the costs of our two big parties (Swim Team Banquet in May and the Swim Team BBQ in September) that are not covered by guest registration, purchase "swimmer swag" once or twice a year (special Team t-shirt or towel or other gifts), cover our Officials' Fees, purchase Fun Meet Treats, underwrite the cost of Swim Team Meetings (A/V, etc), contribute to squad building events (every squad is supported by Boosters to have activities for bonding), Swim Caps for every swimmer, and more. How does the Boosters raise money? We raise money through our Boosters assessment bill that you will see three times a year on your MAC statement (approximately $10 for Flying Ms, $15 for Bronze, and $25 for Silver and up). We raise money through our annual Portland Marathon volunteer event where we run two aid stations for the marathon. We sometimes host a Swimathon. We sometimes ask for contributions to our fund. Our team also raises money when we host invitational meets. Why are there required Volunteer hours? It takes over a thousand volunteer hours per year to run our team's activities! In order to participate in Oregon Swimming official meets, every team has to send lane timers and officials to help run every meet. Our two annual MAC invitational meets (Dec and April) are completely supported by our Boosters team. We run everything from door greeters to safety marshalls to hospitality (meals for officials and coaches) to lane timing, heat winner awards, announcers, head timer, runners, safe sport monitors, and more. Our Squads stay vibrant and happy as swimmers when we help them convene outside the pool for activites (pizza parties, park play time, brunch for Senior Squad, Power Snack Baking parties, outings to Wings and Waves, and more). We need Boosters volunteers to help organize these critical squad building activites. How do I sign up to Volunteer? Look at the Volunteer Opportunities page! What if I absolutely have no time to volunteer ? We recognize that our swimmers also go to school, play soccer, participate in music rehersals, community theater and more! We also recognize that swim team parents may be giving their volunteer time to these other activities. The Boosters charges accounts $20 per hour for unmet volunteer commitment. See the Volunteer Hour Requirement page for more details on the requirement. How can I learn more about Boosters. We will have meetings every other month (starting in October 2023). The meetings will cover recent past and upcoming events and provide a forum for Boosters members to ask questions and learn how to support the team. |
