Swim Meet Sign-Up
-
Meet schedule is posted on the website in two formats. The first is under the Events tab on the home page. The second is in a calendar version that has additional information with a printable version. The meets are listed on the Practice Calendar as well as the Events Calendar. Meet and Practice schedules are subject to change. All meets are scheduled with Oregon Swimming more than a year in advance. The meet format and details vary from meet to meet so read the meet information carefully. Meet information will be posted to the Events tab as soon as it is available.
-
Meet invitations are emailed out to teams about 6-8 weeks in advance of the meet. When you receive this invitation, please respond promptly by accepting or declining the invitation. We encourage everyone to attend the whole meet for your athlete’s age group. Please note in your response if your athlete can only swim on certain days of the meet. The coach decides what events the athletes swim, but we are generally open to discussion and suggestions if your athlete has a specific event they want to swim.
-
Generally, the 12 & Under athletes compete in the morning session. The 13 & Over athletes swim in the afternoon session. Friday afternoon sessions are usually distance events.
-
Meet entries will be sent out for you to review before being submitted to the host team. This is the chance to make any changes or correct any errors. It is important to look over the entries to be sure they are correct.
-
No entries will be accepted and no changes will be made once the entries are submitted to the host team. All entries will be posted to the website for your reference.
-
The week before the meet we will post the Psych Sheet, Heat Sheet, Timeline or Session Report, and any additional information to the Events tab here on Team Unify. We post all the subsequent meet information as soon as we receive it.
-
Results will be sent out as soon as we receive them.
-
Sign up your athlete for meets that you are able to attend. If for any reason your coach doesn’t feel that the meet is appropriate for your athlete, they will communicate that to you.
What are Time Standards?
All athletes begin their careers with No Times/C-times. From there, they work to B-times with the goal of reaching A-times. An A-time qualifies the athletes to go to State Championships for their age group (10 & Under, 11-14, or Senior Champs). Beyond A-times are Regionals, Sectionals, Futures, Nationals, and Olympic Trials. Time standards can be found on the Oregon Swimming website.
Meets listed as A/B/C are meets for everyone. B/C Meets for more novice swimmers. Swimmers with A-times are generally not allowed to compete at a B/C meet. A/B meets are for more advanced athletes. You must have A or B times to compete at this level of meet. Championship meets will have qualifying times (A-times or above) to attend that meet. Those qualifying times will be listed in the meet information.

Attending Meets:
-
BEFORE GOING TO THE MEET: Review the meet information, entries for your athlete, directions to the pool, warm-up times, etc.
-
Pack the following items: team suit, red Winged M swim cap, 2 pairs of goggles, at least 2 towels, warm clothes, footwear, MAC team apparel such as a T-shirt or warm up jacket, healthy snacks, fluids (water!), games or books. We encourage athletes to not bring electronics to the meet. We want them engaged in the meet and cheering for their friends.
-
Arrive at the meet at least 15 minutes before warm-up begins. Athletes need to check in with their coach FIRST, then put their gear down and find a place to sit and get ready to warm up. We want the team to sit together as much as possible. Some meets have designated seating areas for athletes that are separate from parents. This is an important part of getting more experienced at meets.
-
Contact your coach if you are going to be late or unable to attend the meet for any reason. Coaches need to let meet referees know if athletes are a no-show, especially for deck-seeded events (events which are seeded on the day of the meet). We will organize relays once athletes have checked in.
-
Athletes need to check in with their coach BEFORE AND AFTER each swim. This is our key time to give feedback about each swim, refer to what we’ve been working on in practice, give congratulations, etc. It is vital to athlete development that they discuss races with their coach.
-
Always check in with your coach before leaving the meet to ensure your athlete is finished with their individual events and any possible relays.
Meet Results:
The meet officials will send the meet results file to the each of the teams attending the meet and to Oregon Swimming. We will upload the meet results to our data base as well as Team Unify, calculate results statistics, and send them out to the families as soon as possible.
Apparel and Equipment:
MAC Swim Team is an Arena sponsored team. This means that Arena gives our swimmers 20% discount on suits and warm-ups/clothes when we identify as MAC swimmers at the time of purchase. We ask that our swimmers wear Arena swimsuits, parkas, and sweats when possible. Our Coaches wear Arena on deck and we hope that our swimmers will too. At the Championship level (Sectionals, Futures, and beyond), Arena gives our athletes higher discounts (30-50% off) and free gear ($75-400 depending on the level), so it is really important at these meets to represent MAC and Arena.
Our primary Team Store is SwimOutlet.com. You can shop on line. For MAC branded gear/suits, you will get 20% off. For non MAC branded Arena suits and clothes, Swim Outlet will usually have price marked down 20% off MSRP already. If the price is not marked down 20% off MSRP, Swim Outlet should give you 20% off MSRP.
Athletes need to provide their own equipment. The club has a limited amount of equipment to borrow. Equipment needs to be stored on-deck in the cubbies at the east end of the pool. Each squad has their own designated area where their equipment bags go. All equipment must be stored in the mesh bag. Equipment is not allowed to be stored loose.
For Practice:
-
Competitive-cut suit (Brief, Jammers, Dragsuit, one-piece for girls. No baggy swim trunks or two-pieces. Tight-fitting rash guards only if your athlete gets cold in the 50M)
-
Goggles – 2 pairs in case of emergency
-
Kickboard
-
Fins
-
Pull Buoy
-
Hand paddles -only slightly bigger than your athlete’s hand (not needed for Age Group 3 and Age Group 4)
-
Center mount snorkel (not needed for Age Group 4)
-

-
Swim Caps. MAC Swim Team will supply every swimmer (regardless of new or returning) 3 MAC Swim Team caps for the year. The wholesale cost of these caps is about $20 total for 3 caps (they are about $6.50 each) and this will be billed to your MAC account. If your swimmer needs additional caps beyond 3, the coaches will usually have extra and can bill account for wholesale cost. Additional caps may be available at the Mporium gift shop at retail price. Coaches will also usually have extra caps at meets in case your swimmer's cap and back up cap both rip. Caps come in Latex (thinner) and Silicone (thicker), there is a lot of personal preference here. There are also monogrammed State Championship caps that swimmers (relay and individual swimmers) will get (without charge) if they go to Short Course State Championships or Long Course State Championships. The team will supply 2 caps for a swimmer attending state championships. Swimmers who attend both state championship meets will not get 2 additional caps for the 2nd meet. Expectation is that they will wear this monogrammed MAC championship cap (2 supplied) at both championship meets.
Meet Apparel:
-
Racing suit
-
2 pairs of goggles
-
Team swim caps -RED or WHITE, not Black
-
Team shirt with Winged M
-
Team warm-up jacket or sweatshirt
Championship Meets:

See the For Parents drop down section of our website (Team Store/Arena/Gear) for information about suit type for practice and competition based on age of athlete.
Communication:
Coaches send out weekly updates through email. Please check your email that you registered with Team Unify or go to this Team Unify site for all information.
Coach Office hours are Monday – Friday 12:00PM-7:00PM. We will always do our best to get back to you within 24 hours. Email is preferred for non-critical communication.
When traveling to meets you can communicate with us by texting our cell phone. Please don’t call unless it’s an emergency. If it is a day-of-meet issue, do not email. We will not see it in time. Additionally, please respect our personal time by not texting or calling before 8am (unless it is a meet-day emergency) or after 7pm.
Cell phone numbers:
-
Tim Larkin (845) 803-1061
-
Oscar Tippol (714) 600-9496
Snack box:
Each squad has a dedicated snack box. After practice, athletes enjoys choosing ONE snack from the snack box. Having a healthy, ~100-calorie snack (preferably one with carbs and protein and low in sugar) within 30 minutes of practice helps the athletes’ bodies to recover after a hard practice until they are able to have breakfast or dinner. We invite every parent to contribute to the snack box often, as they are 100% parent funded. Thank you for your donations.
MAC Swim Team Website (Sports Engine):
This is your primary source for information outside of the coaches’ weekly email updates. You can check on your athlete’s attendance, practice times, events, schedules, records, etc. Make this your first stop for team or squad information, and if you cannot find what you need then email your athlete’s coach. Multnomah Athletic Club Home This webpage can be a little confusing the first time you access it and it can appear different on mobile phones vs desktop/laptop computers. It has a front and a back section. The front section has photos of swimmers and is RED and WHITE. The back section is mostly black and white. For general team information (helpful FOR PARENTS dropdown and team FAQs and more), you want the RED AND WHITE page. If you are stuck on the black and white page, look to the very bottom left of your screen (bottom of the black column) for the words VIEW TEAM WEBSITE and click on that. It should take you to the RED AND WHITE page.

Portland Marathon:
This is one of our main fundraisers each year. We need about 70 volunteers every year for this event. We show up early in the morning at two aid stations and the MAC SWIM TEAM runs these two aid stations for the Portland Marathon! We hand out water, Electrolyte drinks, and snacks to runners. Even more, our MAC SWIM TEAM cheers on the runners. It is a great bonding experience for the athletes and a chance to serve our greater athletic community. Sign up sheet goes out in September and always fills very fast because it is such a fun event and a great way to get volunteer hours. We hope you will participate !
