Pacific Swimming

PSL is seeking individuals with swim coach or swim instruction experience to join our coaching staff!

Practices are 4:00-7:00pm, Mon-Fri at Jean E. Brink Pool at Oceana High School, Pacifica, a quick commute from the city and most of the northern peninsula.

BASIC FUNCTIONS & QUALIFICATIONS - ASSISTANT COACH

  • Assist the Head Coach with teaching PSL swimmers proper stroke development, and technique fundamentals
  • Lead tiered group of swimmers during practice
  • Have a passion for coaching and working with youth athletes of varying levels
  • Assist with PSL activities such as: Fundraisers, special events, home and away meets.
  • Substitute for other coaches as needed
  • Ensure the safety of all swimmers by enforcing proper conduct during practices and swim meets

REQUIREMENTS

  • Membership with USA Swimming
  • Background check prior to hiring
  • Complete “Athlete Protection Training”
  • American Red Cross CPR, First Aid, Safety Training for Swim Coaches, Concussion Protocol Training
  • Prior experience working with youth swimmers (e.g. Assistant coach, Swim instructor, or other related experience)
  • Sound technical understanding of swimming  - believes in a process for swimmer development, committed to curriculum development.
  • High level of integrity paired with a favorable reputation in the swimming community.
  • Maintain professional conduct at all times
  • Demonstrated self-awareness – recognizing emotions, strengths, challenges, drive, values, and goals; with an empathetic and highly relational skill set. 
  • Self-motivated and holds self and others to high standards, fosters a culture of accountability that rewards success and mentors for improvement.
  • Highly collaborative and committed to a team atmosphere rather than individual achievement.
  • Innovative and brings new ideas to transform and grow the club..
  • Strong oral communication skills, ability to work with a diverse staff population

Key Performance/Evaluation Factors 

  • Annual performance evaluation by head coach and board
  • Evaluations by athletes/athlete families
  • Roster growth and athlete performance improvement and advancement

Direct Supervisor: Pacifica Sea Lions Head Coach

Key relationships

  • City of Pacifica Parks, Beaches, and Recreation department leadership, especially aquatics coordinator. 
  • Pacifica Sea Lions Board of Directors. 

Compensation: Competitive wages based on experience.

Work Schedule: Part-time position.
