Description: Bob was one the first teen-age coaches (15 years old) in northern Virginia. In the late 1960’s, adults (or volunteers) coached their children in baseball, basketball and football. Though Bob swam a lot early in his life, he left swimming for basketball at 13 years old, only to return to swimming as a coach at Starlit Aquatic Club in Fairfax, Virginia, a 50-meter-long course pool and facility, which was one of the first of its kind on the east coast. He left the NVSL for the 1979 season only to return t0 the NVSL, division 1 in 1980 at Overlee Pool in Arlington, Virginia. His teams won Division 1 Championships 6 years in a row when no prior team had ever before gone undefeated and won Division 1 more than 2 years in a row. His Overlee teams also won 6 consecutive Division 1 titles and all-star relay carnival championships from 1980-1985. He retired from the NVSL in 1985 only to return to Overlee in 1988 and win the division 1 title and all-star relay championships again. He returned the following season to Overlee for one final year. In the 8 years he coached Overlee in Division 1, he lost one swim meet and all-star relay carnival championship, his very last in each. Bob has been retired from coaching summer league since 1989. He has however, maintained contact with his beloved NVSL, he has been the announcer for both the NVSL all-star relays and individual all stars for 30+ years. Yes, that’s him in the guard chair, all wired up!!!!!!!!

Hello and welcome to York! We are happy you’re here and are part of/joining the York Swim Club family. Coupled with my years teaching for FCPS, (30yrs, now retired from FCPS), I can say that I am very familiar with the area, the opportunities, challenges, pace of life and everything that comes with being a resident of Northern VA. In that time, I have truly come to believe that York is the most successful at helping our athletes achieve a healthy school (work)/life balance. With athletes at every level of the sport, we work together to challenge and encourage your athlete to achieve on and off the pool deck…so fast swimming, fun and love of the sport and life is what will continue to propel them forward to achieve their goals. Age Groupers – do you want to…. get an A time, make an A meet for you summer club, make finals at a meet, qualify for 14 & Under Champs, qualify for ISCA, get a best time, try a new event…we’ve had swimmers do all of that and keep going on the Sr. level…we can get you there too! Let’s go!

I started swimming
competitively in the NVSL at Lee Graham when I was 6 years old.
A year later, in 1983, I joined YORK swim school and
the YORK swimming family. I continued swimming through high
school and began coaching swim school during my junior and senior
years.
During summer breaks from
college and the years following graduation, I returned to my summer
team and coached for 6 years at Lee Graham working with all age
groups. After graduation, my path led back to the winter deck
and YORK where I began focusing on working with the 12
&unders. During this time I also had the opportunity to
coach at Oakton High School and had 8 great years there. In
the summer you can find me on deck coaching our neighborhood
team.
My personal swim journey began in 1982. Along the way I have
had the chance to work with some amazing coaches, swimmers and
families. I am thrilled that I can continue to share the
magic that is York Swim Club with my kids and family.
I will be subbing
at different locations this year!

Hi everyone! My name is Ally Bodmer and I am SO excited to start my club coaching experience at York this year! I grew up in Manassas, Virginia and joined my neighborhood summer swim team in the Prince William Swim League in 2001. I joined the team to make new friends in my neighborhood, but it quickly turned into my new favorite sport! I swam competitively on Amberjax, Occoquan, and Machine through my sophomore year of high school, when I decided to focus on my running career. After high school, I attended JMU for my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. I ran cross country and track throughout my time at JMU and then helped my head coach as a grad assistant during my 5th year!
I am now a second grade teacher in Prince William County this year, but am still looking forward to building relationships with families on York! I absolutely love working with kids and have enjoyed sharing my love of swimming with them. Lastly, you can find me at High Point Pool in the summer! I have been one of the assistant coaches for the past three summers.
I look forward to having a fun, swimming-filled year!

About me -
I’m excited to be joining the York family for my first year as a coach! I grew up with a love for the pool, spending nearly 20 years in the NVSL as both a swimmer and a coach. After stepping away from the sport to focus on my career, I never lost my passion for swimming — so when the opportunity to join York came along, I couldn’t pass it up.
My coaching philosophy is simple: I want swimmers to love the sport as much as I did growing up. That means keeping practices fun, inclusive, and pressure-free. The moment swimming feels like a “must do” instead of something you want to do, it can lose its magic — and my goal is to make sure every swimmer feels supported, engaged, and excited to be in the water.
Outside the pool, I run my own consulting business, working with companies around the Beltway to help them bid and win government contracts. This career shift has given me the flexibility to focus more on the things I love — including getting back to the pool and coaching with the York family!

After many years of competing year-round as a USA swimmer, I continued my career through high school and college at the Division I level. Outside of swimming, I am a First Grade Teacher at McNair Elementary School in Fairfax County. Working with young children (both in and out of the water) brings me so much joy! Hi everyone! I am very excited for my first year of coaching at York Swim Club! I grew up in Northern Virginia and began competitively swimming for Coach Mat at age 5. My love for swimming continued through my college years, as I participated in the club swim team at the University of Virginia, where I graduated from in May 2025 with my bachelor’s in psychology. I am extremely passionate about the sport and look forward to encouraging the members of our team.

Nathan Pawlowicz was born in Michigan but grew up in the
Northern Virginia area after his
family moved to Virginia in 2005. While in Northern VA Nathan was a
member of the Hunter
Mill Sharks (NVSL), Nation's Capital Swim Club, and Oakton High
School teams. During his
swimming career, Nathan was a multiple time All-Star within the
NVSL, and one of his proudest
accomplishments is helping Oakton win a state championship his
senior year in 2015. After
swimming for Parker Ramsdell at Oakton and John Flanagan at
Nation's Capital he went on to
swim collegiately for Virginia Tech. While at Virginia Tech he
helped the Hokies accomplish
multiple top 4 finishes in the Atlantic Coastal Conference and was
the ACC swimmer of the
week his Sophomore year.
In 2019, Nathan graduated from Virginia Tech, with a bachelor's
degree in Economics along
with a minor in business. After graduating from college, Nathan
joined Collins Aerospace as a
Financial Analyst, and helped support government contracts to build
flight simulators for the
Navy and Air Force. While working at Collins Aerospace Nathan was
an assistant coach for the
Canterbury Woods Swim Team (NVSL) and helped the team earn a
promotion from Division 12
to Division 10.
Currently, Nathan works at Freddie Mac in Tysons Corner supporting
Information Technology
within the company related to IT service owners and their annual
budgeting and forecasting
processes. While not working or coaching, Nathan enjoys playing
golf or going to the driving
range, working out in the weight room, running, and listening to
classic rock.

Hi everyone! I’m so excited to keep growing with the York
family! I first started coaching during summers back in high
school, and continued all through college in Beirut, Lebanon,
before joining York in 2024. In Lebanon, I competed nationally as a
swimmer and regionally as a triathlete. Beyond the pool, I’ve
always been passionate about sports—I’ve also been a
runner, triathlete, and personal trainer. Through it all, my love
for swimming has never changed. It brings me so much joy to share
that passion and knowledge with young athletes, and I can’t
wait to see what this season has in store for us! :)

Having
been mentored by Bob most of my adult life, it is an honor to be
joining the York family and become part of one of the best swim
clubs in the entire area. It’s been a dream to be coaching
here, and I plan on doing everything I can to exceed
expectations!
I
can’t wait to get started this Fall, and will bring with me
17plus years of USS swim coaching experience (AAC) at all
levels- from learn to swim, all the way up to the National/us open
level. I have 20 years of summer swim coaching experience between
Forest Hollow swim club And Washington golf and country club (where
I have been the aquatics director and club events coordinator for

different goal and expectation from the sport of
swimming.
I
bring a high energy, enthusiastic, fun approach to coaching.
It’s my goal that your child falls in love with the sport of
swimming, this team, and the water in general! I try my absolute
best to keep practice fun, fresh and engaging. I try my hardest to
customize the experience for each swimmer, as best as possible, as
every swimmer has different goals. But most of all, I’m in
your corner…your athletes, and your families best interests
will always be at the forefront of what I do. I’m a
cheerleader and a motivator, and I look forward to working with

Hi everyone, this will be my 6th year coaching with York Swim Club! I grew up in Northern Virginia while attended Bishop O'Connell High School and James Madison Universtiy(Roll Dukes!). I grew up around swimming and started swimming from a young age, but focused on other sports as I got older. When I finished at JMU and came home, I got back into coaching swimming with my father, Bob York. It has reignited my passion for it and I couldn't imagine not having my groups today. York Swim Club truly imbodies the family atmosphere while staying competitive and encouraging these kids to grow as individuals and as a group. Feel free to reach out with any questions you may have for me about York or the upcoming season!
