Flippers Up! Your Weekly Splash from the Penguins - Week 2 (6/1-6/7)

A little about TTs :  All summer swim teams hold a “time trial” event at the beginning of each season.  All swimmers are invited to swim in every stroke (Freestyle, Backstroke, Butterfly, and Breaststroke) plus Individual Medley (100 meters, 25m of each stroke) to set their baseline time for each event.  These times will be used (software) when seeding swimmers at their next meet and for creating the swimmer ladder (ranked listing of all swimmers by age/gender grouping per stroke by time). This is the only time a swimmer, that is legal in all the strokes, is allowed to swim all 4 strokes at a meet!  Colonial Swim League limits swimmers to three strokes at a competitive meet and two strokes at a developmental meet.  

Burke Centre Swim Club is unique in that we have two teams that use the same pool facilities and are in the same league.  For many years, the two teams have conducted TTs together. This year Penguins have the morning session and Stingers will be at the pool in the afternoon.  

DECLARE by midnight Thursday, June 5 in TeamUnify : All 9 years old and up swimmers will swim all 4 strokes, IM too (time permitting). Expectation is that if a swimmer (any age) can swim across the pool without grabbing on a lane line, they should try to swim that stroke during TTs, even if they have not perfected the technique. This applies especially to 8 & Unders where they should all try freestyle (if they meet the above criteria), potentially back, and breast or fly. All swimmers that can swim across the pool without resting on a lane line should participate in TTs!!!  (most of the minis will NOT be participating in TTs unless a coach says they are ready).  Sign up through the app or TU.

• 4YO: 5:30 - 6pm
• 5YO: 6:05 - 6:35pm
• 6YO: 6:40 - 7:10pm

Fin Bin: The FIN BIN will be available at practices at the OAKS Pool! The fin bin is take what you need, donate what you don't want! You may also donate old spirit wear and swim gear in the fin bin too!

Volunteer Check: Please make sure you place your $300 check in your family folder at the pool by Friday, June 6th. If your check is not there Friday you will not be able to participate in Time Trials, practices or meets. This check will be returned when you have completed your volunteer shifts.

Key Volunteer Positions Needed: We still need volunteers for Team Rep Trainee, and pool set-up & cleanup/equipment manager trainee. Filling a key volunteer position fulfills your volunteer responsibility for the summer. 

We are in need of officials - With the summer season about to begin, parent volunteers are crucial to running a successful meet. We are especially in need of new Stroke and Turn Judges for swim meets!
