The Penguins Winter Swim Program is a non-competitive alternative for swimmers wanting to be in the water all year, but not ready or interested in making the greater time commitment to the many competitive winter swim programs.  The Penguins Winter Swim Program is not a “learn to swim” program because the water depth is between 4-12 ft depending on our lane assignments.  Each lane will be limited to 10 swimmers and swimmers may have to start their swims from the middle of the pool.  Beginning swimmers are best served in one of the County’s learn-to-swim classes.  All swimmers must be approved by the coaches.  

There are a limited number of rec center lanes available for our winter swim program.  We will make every attempt to accommodate all interested swimmers.  Final program lane and swimmer confirmations will be made before mid-August.  In the event that the rec center cannot provide all of our requested lane space, swimmers will be admitted to the team in the priority order listed below.  Registration fees for the program can only be refunded if we have met our lane capacity and a swimmer must be moved to the waitlist. Any questions or concerns can be sent to [email protected]. 

GOAL:  To have all swimmers legal in each stroke, be able to swim an IM, and refine starts and turns.  In addition, all swimmers will work on improving stroke techniques.

WHEN & WHERE: Practice locations are not yet finalized by the County. Practices are expected to be at either Audrey Moore or South Run RECenter on Sundays from 6:00-7:00 pm or 7:00-8:00 pm. The Penguins Winter Swim Program will start on Sunday, September 10, 2023 and run through Sunday, May 5, 2024. Final location/time details will be shared by mid-August.

COST:  The cost for the season will be $225 per swimmer plus credit card processing fee. Due to a system limitation, if you will be registering more than 5 siblings, contact [email protected] so we can manually process your registration.  Payment is due at the time of registration. 

REFUNDS/WAITLIST: If your swimmer changes their mind AND there are swimmers on a waitlist, a prorated refund may be offered so we can assign your slot to another swimmer. If a new swimmer does not pass the swim evaluation, a full refund will be offered. Once your swimmer has been selected to join the team, there will be NO refunds offered if there is nobody on the waitlist.

SWIMMER SELECTION:  Acceptance into the Penguins Winter Swim Program is based on a lottery with priority given as below. On time registrations will have preference over late registration. New swimmers will be required to complete a swim evaluation and participation will need to be approved by the head coach. Swimmers ending the summer season in the mini program will require approval of the winter swim head coach prior to registration. Swim evaluation dates will be forthcoming.

NO SWIM DATES:  The Penguins Winter Swim Program will start on Sunday, September 10, 2023 and run through Sunday, May 5, 2024.  The season will have a total of 27 sessions.  There will NOT be Winter Swim on the dates listed below:
