Does my family need to have a pool membership?
Yes, you do need to have a Burke Centre Conservancy Pool Membership to join the Stingers. Check out the Burke Centre Conservancy website for details about purchasing your pool membership. Pool membership includes access to all FIVE pools in the community.
Does my swimmer need to be evaluated? How do swimmer evaluations work?
Swimmer evaluations are conducted to ensure safety in the pool and proper practice placement. All new Stingers ages 10 and under must join us for a swim evaluation. Additionally, swimmers that were Minis in 2023 (shallow end the entire season) that want to swim in lanes this summer should also come to Swimmer Evaluation.
Stingers coaches will conduct the evaluation using the Burke Centre Swim Club performance criteria based on Red Cross Level III standards. Coaches will be available during evaluations to answer any questions you may have.
2024 swimmer evaluations will be held at The Commons Pool on Tuesday May 28, 2024 between 5:00-7:00 PM.
Minis must be comfortable getting into and out of the water by themselves without parental assistance. They must be comfortable putting their face in the water and be able to follow instructions.
In the event that a swimmer does not pass the evaluation, registration fees will be refunded.
I really need to get my swimmer into the practice time for campers. Can I reserve a practice time prior to registration for my swimmer?
No, all practice times are first come, first served upon opening of registration.
Can my mini swimmer switch practice times?
At the time of registration you are committing to a practice slot for the season. Please plan to honor this commitment throughout the season. As the season progresses, there may be opportunities to change practice times as minis move up to the lanes for practice, but do not rely on these opportunities to change the practice time for your mini.
Do I have to volunteer for my child to swim with the Stingers?
The Stingers have a mandatory volunteer requirement. Over the course of the season all families must volunteer for a minimum of 6 volunteer shifts or pay a volunteer fee of $300. We collect volunteer deposit checks during the first week of practice. Your check will only be cashed if you do not meet the volunteer requirement. Check out our Volunteer handbook and job descriptions for more information.
I really want to volunteer, but I am not able to make it to meets or social events. What can I do?
There are so many opportunities to take advantage of during the season to help your family meet the volunteer requirement that will work with your schedule. Some examples include hauling equipment to and from events, providing items for the snack bar, cleaning up the pool deck and locker rooms during and after practice, and other behind the scenes positions. Please reach out to the Stinger's volunteer coordinator with any questions.
I’m interested in coaching this year. How do I apply to be a coach?
Junior Coaches will be part time and new to coaching, with a focus on learning how to coach (previously designated as an intern). Junior Coaches must be eligible for employment and at least 15 years old.
Assistant Coaches are returning full time coaches or coaches with experience.
Please note: Assistant and Junior coaches must be on the Burke Centre Stingers swim team roster to be considered for employment.
