MEET JOB VOLUNTEER DESCRIPTIONS

Every swim meet requires a large number of parent volunteers. The following are descriptions of the meet jobs available for sign up. Interested in becoming an official? Email: [email protected]

A meets are Saturdays from approx. 8 – 11 a.m. Please be aware only top-seeded swimmers will swim in A meets. If you have a swimmer who is top 4 on the ladder, please consider signing up for these meets. Keep in mind, once you sign up to volunteer for an A meet, you'll need to attend even if your child is not selected to swim that week.

B meets are Wednesdays from approx. 6 – 9 p.m. Please be aware that if you volunteer for a Wednesday meet you will be required to stay until the end of your commitment, even if you child finishes swimming earlier. Most meet jobs do require you to stay at the pool location for most, if not all, of the meet so please plan accordingly prior to registration.

CLEAN UP:  Be prepared to move deck chairs, put away rope, signs, lane lines, etc. No experience required, but come ready for some lifting and moving! Clean up begins at the last stroke event of the meet.

CLERK OF COURSE: The Clerk of Course team does not need to be experienced, but a strong “parent” voice does help as you will: line swimmers up, keep them organized and deliver them to their correct spot! These jobs require you to stay on your feet, but it’s a fun and entertaining way to spend the meet encouraging and interacting with the swimmers.

COMPUTER ASSISTANT: Work side by side with our computer chair to get all results into the computer correctly and efficiently. Data entry uses Hy-Tek computer program (one person reads while other enters). Assistants will also print results and ribbon labels after data entry. This job is a great job for someone that wants to be seated and in the shade. Someone comfortable with computer data entry preferred, but experience not required.

CONCESSIONS: Assist our concession chair with the set up and breakdown of concessions area in the Snack Shack and run our concession sales during the meet. This job runs for the entire duration of our home meets so please plan accordingly to attend from set up through breakdown.

CONCESSIONS SHOPPER: Rapids order from restaurants and vendors to sell during concessions. The shopper picks up orders, makes purchases and delivers everything to the pool prior to the start of the meet. On Wednesdays, this job might begin as early as 4 PM and on Saturday, as early as 6 AM.

DECK MARSHAL: No experience necessary. This role will direct the flow of swimmer traffic on deck and ensure Spectators stay in their designated areas during during the Meet. Stylish orange safety vest included!

DQ SLIP RUNNER: Want a great view of the action during the meet? This might be the perfect job for you. Runners help swimmers and coaches by delivering any DQ slips from officials to scorer’s table.

HEAT WINNER RIBBONS: For our developmental B meets on Wednesdays we congratulate each heat winner with a ribbon and small prize/treat. No experience required for this job, but you’ll need to be quick on your feet and able to walk the lanes to hand out ribbons after each heat.

OFFICIALS: Stroke & Turn Judges, Referee & the Starter are all vital meet officials that ensure all rules are being followed. We always need more officials and encourage you to consider training for these roles. The CSL provides training in the Spring for these jobs and there are shadow opportunities before full certification. Experienced parents are highly encouraged to consider these jobs – you’ll be right in the heart of the action!

PARKING: This job is entirely completed before the meet begins. No experience required; just the ability to stand out in the driveway directing cars for about an hour before the meet begins. Bonus: you get to wear a cool orange safety vest - it's fire.

RIBBONS: Looking for a seated in the shade job that requires no previous on deck experience? Ribbons is a pretty simple job...but one the kids look forward to the most! For A meets you simply need to stop by the computer area after each stroke is completed to sit with the opposing team rep and sort through labels and sticker ribbons accordingly. For B meets, you’ll be stationed in the computer area starting after the completion of the first stroke and start labeling our team ribbons. Both jobs do require you stay for the entire meet duration, but you’ll have some flexibility to watch your kids compete.

TIME CARD RUNNERS: This job is ideal for someone who wants a great view and to stay close to the finish. Distribute time cards to timers, collect completed cards after each heat and deliver to the computer table.

TIMERS:  A large number of timers are needed to run each meet. No experience required. This job requires attention and focus…and a fast trigger finger helps, too! You will be assigned to a lane and will be on your feet for the meet duration. We always recommend new timers start with Time Trials or a developmental B meet before signing up for a Saturday meet. For Wednesday B meets, we are asking someone with experience to sign up as our HEAD TIMER.

GENERAL VOLUNTEER:  Life happens and inevitably we’ll have a last minute switch or change and be in need of some extra hands. The general volunteer may be asked to fill in any of the above on deck jobs or something else the team needs. This job is best for someone who is willing to roll up their sleeves and jump into any job.

NON-MEET VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTIONS

Our social committee is always in need of some enthusiastic parents to help us with social events that are, honestly, the best part of summer swim!

Ice Cream Social:  Be on deck after each of the 3 practice times to help scoop ice cream. Set up an clean up, too!  We try to set up in the shade and for part of the time you’ll be up and on your feet, but it’s not heavy lifting.

Banquet:  Our end of the year banquet can’t be missed and it takes extra hands to make the meal, games and awards so memorable. Be on hand for set up, the event and clean up. This job will require some tent and furniture set up.

Splash Party: One of our season highlights, we’ll need a few hands for set up, monitoring concessions, crowd control, running music and cleaning up. Always an evening event so a good job if you like to stay cool and out of the sun!

SwimAThon: A busy morning featuring thousands of laps, calls for some extra hands! Volunteers are required to help set up (extra early, 7 AM) and clean up breakfast, occasionally help with raffle, lap counting and general whatever is needed kind of jobs. Be prepared to stand and/or be in the sun.
