Swim Team Frequently Asked Questions

Will meets take place in the rain?

Meets take place in the rain and will only be postponed due to thunder and/or lighting at the discretion of the pool manager.

 

Are practices cancelled if it is raining?

Swimmers practice 5 days a week, rain or shine (not thunder or lightning – they will wait for the appropriate amount of time for this to pass).

 

 

Can parents remain at the pool during practice?

Yes, but parents should not talk to coaches during practice. The coaches must give their attention to the swimmers. Please talk to the coaches before or after practice.

 

Are swim team members required to wear team suits?

It is not required for a swimmer to wear the team suit; however, it does promote a sense of team unity. Team suits are available at C & M Sporting Goods in Manoa Shopping Center.

 

What if a swimmer will need to miss a meet?

If your swimmer will be missing a swim meet, either Varsity on Saturday mornings,  or JV on Wednesday nights, please tell the coaches in advance AND sign your swimmer out in the copybook in the front office in the pool.

 

What if a swimmer becomes ill on the day of the meet - who should we contact?

If your swimmer becomes ill on the day of the meet, please call the head coach.

Besides practices and meets, are there any other swim team activites planned throught the season?

In addition to practice and meets, there are various other activities to promote team bonding such as time trials, pizza party pep rally, pancake breakfast, spirit week, relay carnivals, Karakung Mini-meet, Swim Team Awards Banquet.  Check the swim team events page for more information.

 

What ways can parents support the swim team?

Many parent volunteers are needed to run a swim meet and many jobs do not require any swimming knowledge. Timers, start and turn judge, scorers, parents to help line-up swimmers, parents to hand out water to officials and timers during meets, parents to hand out popsicles at end of meets, parents to sell 50/50 during meets, parents to help set up for meets, and break down after the meets.
