Meet the Athlete Leadership Team!
Maeve McEwen Purdue
The Waves have been a part of my life for over 8 years now and it’s been the most amazing experience. Throughout my time on the Waves I have met so many people, some of which have become my best friends and made countless memories. The thing I love most about being a part of the Waves is the community. It is truly special to be part of a team that is constantly uplifting one another and welcoming to swimmers of all levels.

One of my favorite things about the Waves swim team is the team camaraderie and support that is evident at every practice and meet. Of all of the swim teams I have been on, the Waves is the most supportive and fun environment to spend my summer in. No matter what level or ability someone is at when it comes to swimming, they are all accepted and lifted up together as part of the same team. Seeing swimmers cheering at the ends of lanes and laughing together between events always makes me smile and remember why I love this sport. Instead of focusing only on people’s times and what place they finish at a meet, coaches and swimmers alike focus more on each swimmer as a whole and how they can improve their swimming as well as their confidence and teamwork abilities. All of these things are what I will take away from my time swimming with the Waves, even more than the actual swimming memories.

I love the waves because I can connect with a lot of my friends from high school season that I usually wouldn’t see without waves. Another reason is the meets, I love how everyone is so supportive of each other at the meets and how we can maintain a competitive environment.

I love the waves because it’s an amazing club with a lot of outstanding swimmers and coaches. One of the best features of the Goodman Waves are team building. Such as potlucks, swim meats, Tie dye days and Bernie’s beach. These experiences are helpful because it’s a way for swimmers to communicate, feel like they belong and have fun. Another reason why I love the Waves is because of friendships, friendships that I’ve made boosted my confidence, well-being and felt like I belong.

I love the Waves because everyone on this team is very nice, and really makes me feel like I belong. It’s an amazing community to be a part of. The meets and potlucks are my favorite part of being on the team because there’s always good food, friends and good sportsmanship there.

I’ve been swimming with the Goodman Waves since I was 10, making this around my fourth year here. Over the years, I’ve made so many great friends and had so many great experiences with said friends. It’s the reason I come back every year.
Liss Siebel
I love the waves because they welcomed me right away when I joined last year. I was a new swimmer, and no one made me feel bad about not being the fastest, it was like a family to me. I love getting involved with the team as well in doing the chants, relays, etc. Swimming has always been important to me, and I love the environment the waves has created.

There are many things I love about the Waves but when I think about it, it all comes back to the community. At Waves, everyone feels included and accepted. Nobody is judged for who they are. I also think Waves really feels like a team and that makes it fun. When I first joined Waves, I didn’t really want to swim and didn’t think I was good or could be good at swimming but my coaches and friends supported me and now I wouldn’t give up swimming for anything.

The Waves is a very fun way to make new friends. The meets and practices are not only fun and a time to be with friends, but good exercise.
