Since this is Woodcreek H.S. Water Polo history, it's worthy of a post ...

Congratulations to the 2022-'23 Woodcreek Varsity Girls Water Polo team who crafted a comeback win in the last few minutes of the game to win the CIF NorCal Championship Final Match.

Not only are the girls the Sections winners giving Woodcreek their first "Water Polo" Pennant in High School history, but we believe they are also now one of the only Sacramento regional teams to gain their first CIF NorCal Championship (not including Davis). There were quite a few historical firsts accomplished with both the boys' and girls' squads (see bottom of post)

A huge "thank you" to those media channels that featured the girls' historical win for both the high school and water polo programs.

Both the Woodcreek High School Girls' and Boys' Water Polo team came in 1st for - CVC League

SECOND - CIF Sac Joaquin Section Playoffs

11/12/2022

Both the Woodcreek Boys and Girls made it to the CIF Sac-Joaquin Sections Championship Final Match. The boys lost a close one to Del Oro Boys in the Final Match and the girls ended up winning the Division 2: CIF Section and earning Woodcreek their FIRST Woodcreek Water Polo Pennant.

CIF Sac Joaquin Championship Matches are held at the Roseville Aquatics Complex (RAC)

Woodcreek H.S. Water Polo History

• Woodcreek history has been written during these playoffs for many reasons: 
  1. CIF NorCal Champs: The first time ANY Woodcreek HS Water Polo team has gone to the NorCal Champs AND were also the #1 seed to host the entire series at home AND then FINALLY - WIN it all AT HOME as Champions. Woodcreek's first section banner for water polo and NorCal Championship were both achieved in 2022 - amazing.
  2. CIF Sac Joaquin Section (SJS): Win / Pennant: The first time Woodcreek has a CIF SJS Championship pennant (congrats girls) - 2022-'23
  3. The first time both the boys AND the girls were in the CIF SJS Championship match together @ the Roseville Aquatics Complex (RAC)
  4. The second time the girls have been in the CIF SJS Championship match (but first time winning it) - 2002 (L to Rio Americano)
  5. The second time the boys have made the CIF SJS championship game (unfortunately both boys' games were losses, but SUCH close games both times - it will come!) 2005, 2022. The previous time was the 2005-06 season @ Tokay HS against Fairfield HS - a tight game and loss 6-7; D2) < --- More WHS history trivia, our Athletic Director, Grant Guensler coached this amazing team. 
• We believe this is the first or one of the first Sacramento-area-based water polo teams to make the NorCal Champs Final Game AND also win it (unconfirmed, and not including Davis) 
• Woodcreek HS Water Polo has bounced around from D1 and D2 over the years. It is based on the size of the school.
• Woodcreek Girls have been to the Semi-Finals numerous times, but this is their first time in the Championship game.
