2024 Fall Season Updates Coming Soon

  1. Frequently asked questions (FAQs) - scroll down.
  2. 1st practice is usually after school second week of school (TBD*).
  3. Updates tend to come out in late July or early August after our first board meeting.
  4. Need to reach someone? See the "Contact Our Team" Page. Team parents are happy to help.
  5. NEW or curious about water polo? Try out our local water polo clubs for "comp" classes starting in Spring (Sacramento Water Polo and American River are two local options, along with Cal Rep and Davis).
    1. Depending on your age, "Comp = competitive" is what you'll be targeting if you're in or going to be in high school. Junior Olympics (JOs) just means athletes are training towards going to Junior Olympics in Summer or could mean they want an extra day or hour or two towards training weekly and it is in addition to a "Comp" class.
    2. We have athletes and coaches you can chat with too - if you have questions about Club Water Polo and our HS Water Polo season that would be happy to answer questions.
  6. TBD if we'll be doing a "Summer Polo" session again (2024). Info would be coming out in May if so. Updated Athletic Clearance for 2024-25 required if it happens again.
  7. Water Polo camp for 3rd to 7th graders - does NOT matter where you live - we are trying our best to keep an annual camp to introduce water polo to athletes (West Park, Rocklin, and Del Oro and a few other clubs are doing water polo camps as well) - please watch our news section.

  5. Our program is run by coaches, aquatics board, and volunteers

  6. JV Water Polo is a no-cut sport. It helps to have a swim background or club water polo background, but know we welcome all and we have many successful players who come with sometimes minimal experience. Only seniors are required to be on Varsity.

  7. Varsity does involve tryouts. Talk to our Head Coach of Water Polo if you have questions about 1st period or 4th period athletic P.E. No response - your email may have gone to spam - reach out to our aquatics board or athletic directors.

Where are the practices and games?

  1. Our home pool is at the Roseville Aquatics Complex (RAC)

  2. Sometimes practices and games may get switched, canceled, or go longer or shorter (sooner/later) - it happens on occasion due to conflict with work, schedule, or illness.

  3. Unless otherwise indicated by coaches, athletes should expect to arrive ON the pool deck - an hour before their game.

Where can I improve my water polo skills?

  1. Are you looking to join a "water polo" club team to sharpen your water polo skills? Sacramento Water Polo Club and American River Water Polo Club, along with California Republic, and a few others. Many with free options to try out a class or two. For HS-aged athletes - comp/competitive is your first / intro class for those new to the sport. Younger kids - it breaks into age-groups as well as "splashball."

  2. Many of our coaches work at other local water polo clubs - so please don't be shy to chat with them. You can find the contact info for our current coaches under the "contact coaches + board" tab".

  3. City of Roseville used to have an awesome water polo camp, and we're trying to get that restarted, but for now, we encourage Water Polo Club trial classes. There is possibly a swim class with COR that does include one day a week of water polo - but you'll need to inquire with COR to confirm that item

  4. Summer Polo for current + incoming water polo athletes. TBD for Summer 2024-'25. Summer Polo in '23 was a great success.

Reminders for Student Academic Schedules

  1. Varsity squads do take a course during the school day (athletic P.E.) and practice before/during school hours, while JV squads practice after school.

  2. Varsity squad and setting schedules - have a conversation with the coaches so your next year's schedule and expectations can be managed properly.

  3. There are occasional games / events / tournaments that require early departure / excused absences. Our head coach is in charge of issuing the excused absences. Any questions or concerns - coach is happy to chat with you.

  4. Athletes SHOW your teachers your schedule once posted - that way you can plan in advance your tournament and early release days. Most teachers are really flexible when warned.

How long does the season go?

  1. The JV season typically finishes at the end of October, with Varsity squads possibly playing into the first part of November. This also depends on how their league play went. End of season: League Tournament > Sections (SJS) > CIF State Champs

History and success of the program

  1. We have had many successful and strong teams over the years and we would love to have you part of our squad! In 2023 our girls varsity water polo program won CIF SJS NorCal Champs and a Section pennant - a first for our program. Our boys finished strong as runner-ups to the section championship match (SJS)

  2. Our coaches are happy to share past year wins and successes and what we do as a program to cultivate a winning and happy culture for our student-athletes.

  3. We do our best to build a culture of inclusion for all athletes, along with team-building events, and fundraisers.

Volunteers, Alumni, and Aquatics Board

  1. Any alumni wishing to come back and help with our program - please do so - we would love your mentorship and involvement.

  2. We are only as strong as our volunteers and if you're interested in joining our Aquatics Board for Water Polo and Swim + Dive Season - please contact us.  Aquatics Board meets typically the first Tuesday evening of the month at 6pm (location TBD*)

  3. Volunteering to score keep, time clocks, and scoreboard - we can never have enough help here to relieve the regulars. If you're a past polo player, have polo experience, or simply want to learn how to help - know our crew will train you. We would love your help.

  4. We will be adding "Sign-Up" genius volunteer opportunities typically the Sunday before games for volunteer opportunities. Again, watch the News section on the home page of our website (the one you're on)

  5. We do try to have a "training day" right at the start of the season, but don't let that deter you - we can have someone mentor you at the table.

  6. If you would like to donate to our program - we are most grateful! Please see our Aquatics Board contact info.

Water Polo Clubs FAQs

Non-RJUHSD items. If the water polo club websites seem confusing and you're nervous to get started - feel free to reach out to our Coaches or Aquatics Board for questions. Almost ALL local clubs allow for one or two classes for try-out before joining officially.

  • Competitive (COMP) classes a variety of experiences levels for our 7th/8th grade and high school-age athletes from beginners with no experience, to having some high school experience. There are often some players that do not have ANY experience. If you're a swimmer - you'll adapt quickly and so many swimmers love the competition of water polo.
  • Junior Olympics (JOs) is a separate session that is done in conjunction with COMP - it definitely layers the experience and skill sets of players who love the game. It does involve some traveling in June and for the JOs itself for Quals for the JO event in July (JO in July rotates being in either in San Jose region or Southern California / Irvine area - 2023 it's SoCal).
  • Splashball - each club classifies it differently on ages and requirements - but you'll see 4th-7th graders in these classes 10U + 12U. So check the websites for their criteria. All levels of experience and if you're a higher level younger player - there are JOs for the youth players as well.
  • Many of our coaches work out at Sac Polo WPC at Sierra College. We also have players at American River WPC (Water Polo Club).

See "Links" page for links to all the local water polo clubs.
