Coach Certification Information (updated 5/14/2025)

Head Coach

Red Cross First Aid and CPR
- Format: Blended learning (online coursework + in-person training)
- Proof of Certification: Certificate of completion from the Red Cross.
Swim Coaches Safety Training
- Format: Online through the Red Cross and USA Swimming
- Additional Requirement:
  - If not lifeguard certified: Must complete in-water skills session (taught by an LGI or WSI)
  - If lifeguard certified: In-water skills session is not required
- Proof of Certification: Certificate of completion from the Red Cross or USA Swimming + proof of lifeguard certification or in-water skills session.
  - Note: Lifeguard certification does not supersede Swim Coaches Safety Training. It only allows opting out of the in-water skills session for Swim Coaches Safety Training.

Assistant Coach (paid or volunteer), age 15+

Swim Coaches Safety Training
- Format: Online only required through the Red Cross and USA Swimming for summer 2025
- Proof of Certification for 2025: Certificate of completion from the Red Cross or USA Swimming.
- Future years: will review migration to full certification, which includess lifeguard certification or in-water skills session; any change would be communicated in advance

Under age 15 not eligible to be a Coach per ceritification minimum age; can assist on deck and only eligible to assist in water under direct supervision of a certified Coach

Member teams may have additional certification requirements beyond JSSC based on their individual needs.
