Our Team Philosophy
At CVST, we don’t separate swimmers into “A Team” or “B Team.” We are ONE team—one community—and we cheer each other on at every level. Every swimmer’s contributions are valued, and every swimmer is a Viking.
🏊 Summer Swim Meets 101
Here’s a quick guide to help you understand how our summer swim season works!
CVST competes in the Montgomery County Swim League (MCSL). Each year, MCSL places teams into divisions based on the previous season’s results. In 2025, CVST will swim in Division C.
Types of Swim Meets
-
A Meets (Saturdays, mornings) – Competitive meets with lineups selected by coaches based on swimmer times and performance.
-
B Meets (Wednesdays, evenings) – Developmental meets open to all swimmers, great for gaining experience.
-
Relay Carnivals – Fun, team-based relay events.
-
Special Meets – These include end-of-season events like Vikings Splash & Dash, Divisionals, and All-Stars.
Meets take place at both home and away pools. For full meet details, visit our Meet & Events Schedule.
⛱️ Participation is encouraged but not required. Meets are a fun way to improve, bond with teammates, and enjoy friendly competition!

🏁 Meet Terminology
-
Event: A specific race based on stroke, distance, and age/gender group.
-
Heat: A group of swimmers racing the same event at the same time. Larger events may have multiple heats.
-
Heat Sheet / Psych Sheet: Also called the Meet Program, it shows the order of events and swimmer entries. We usually email it a few days before each meet.
-
Scratch: Withdrawing from an event after being entered. Scratches should be discussed with the coach in advance, as they affect lineups and team scoring.
