Meets are staffed completely by volunteers!

  • Approximately 70 volunteers needed at Home meets.

  • Approximately 40 volunteers needed at Away meets.

  • Volunteers work a portion of every meet.

  • The number of required volunteer shifts for meets will be determined once registration closes.  This number is per family.

Volunteer opportunities at meets include:

  • Clerk of Course (training required):   manages the heating area, working closely with the Heating Coordinators, the Starter, and the Deck Referee to ensure a smooth running meet.

  • Concessions:  greet guests in a pleasant manner while completing food and beverage orders, collect payment, and make change for purchased food and beverage items.

  • Heating:  help organize the swimmers to ensure they are in the right event and in the right lane. This is a fast-paced position that requires a lot of organization. It is helpful if you know the swimmers (may not be best for a brand-new family).

  • Hospitality:  help keep our coaches and volunteers hydrated during meets and attend bathrooms.

  • Runners:   responsible for obtaining the completed event cards and DQ forms for each race from the timers and judges. The cards and DQ forms are delivered to the scoring table.

  • Stroke & Turn Judge (training required):  dedicated to ensuring a fair competition.  Located poolside to watch stroke technique and call disqualifications as necessary.

  • Timing:  record the swimmer’s time. Each timer is provided a stopwatch and assigned a lane.

  • Scoring:  participates in lane counting and works with scoring chairs to mark the official time for each swimmer, record the order of finishes, and verify the computer results.

COMMITTEES

We hold lots of fun events throughout the season and these are also staffed completely by volunteers!  Examples include:

  • Pancake Breakfast

  • Fun Fridays

  • Shark Attacks

  • Shark-A-Thon

  • Meet Set Up and Breakdown

  • End of Year Banquet

  • The number of required volunteer shifts for committees will be determined once registration closes.  This number is per family.

MISSED SHIFTS

As previously mentioned, the success of well-run meets and other events is dependent on the commitment of our volunteers.  Thank you for contributing to that success!  If a situation arises where the assigned shift cannot be fulfilled, volunteers are responsible for finding a replacement.  Any changes to volunteer commitment must be approved by the volunteer coordinator.  Please contact the volunteer coordinator at:

[email protected]

Some ways to find a replacement:

  • Ask a team friend to trade.

  • Post the need for help on social media.

  • Recruit a Douglas County High School student to cover for you.  They will receive required volunteer credits to graduate!

Lastly, if you are unable to cover your shift or find a replacement, you will be assessed a $100 per shift non-volunteer fee.
