Students are admitted from the wait list in the order they are received and based on spaces in the lesson groups.

Swim School 101
Welcome to the beginning of your child’s swimming career! LVST swim school is available to those swimmers who are comfortable being in the water and old enough to follow instructions, but are not quite ready to join the Swim Team (4 and up, depending on maturity level).
Swim School’s goal is to help each child gain the skills and confidence to independently swim freestyle a full length of the pool (25 yards) with side breathing, while also introducing the other 3 core strokes of backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. Upon swim school graduation, the swimmer will be ready to transition to the Swim Team, if interested.
The program is overseen by the LVST board and coaches, and taught by our advanced swimmers who will be in the water with the children. Students will sign up for either MW or TTh lessons, 30 minutes each day, for a total of 6 lessons in each session.
On Day 1 the entire group and all the teachers will work together in assessing each child’s level, allowing them to split the children into smaller groups. Each group will be led by a head teacher and may be assisted by a younger teen.
On subsequent days, children will be instructed in the basics of swimming technique, moving up in the groups, until they are ready to join the swim team. This will be determined in conjunction with the Swim School teachers and the LVST coaches. Once enrolled in Session 1, students are automatically offered a spot in Sessions 2 and 3, unless they would like to unenroll or they are invited to move up to Swim Team. A waitlist will be kept so new students have the option to join as existing students leave.
The levels will vary somewhat, depending on the makeup of swimmers in each session, but will roughly follow this progression:
Level 1: This level will focus on comfort in the water, body position, and kicking. To progress to the next level, each student will have mastered knowing pool/water safety rules, streamline with freestyle kick (10 yards), introduction to freestyle arms and kick, float on back with kicks (10 yards).
Level 2: This level will continue to work on the basics while working on coordinating arms and legs with breathing, and building endurance. To progress to the next level, each student will have mastered knowing pool/water safety rules, front and back streamline with kicks (15 yards) , introduction to side breathing, freestyle arms and kicks up to 25 yards without side breathing, introduction to backstroke arms.
Level 3: This level will have a focus on the mechanics of the strokes and building up each swimmer’s endurance. To progress to Swim Team, each student will have mastered knowing pool/water safety rules, front and back streamline with kicks 25 yards (with or without kickboard), 25 yards freestyle with side breathing, 25 yards backstroke, introduction to butterfly and breaststroke, ability to swim for the entire 30 minute lesson without excessive fatigue.
Please contact [email protected] with questions or to join the waitlist once registration is full. If your child is not quite ready for our program, we recommend the classes nearby at JCC and YMCA (year-round) or at Marinwood or TL pool (during the summer) for younger students.
