The Rams Aquatic Club (RAC) offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of RAC to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of their abilities.
We offer the following practice groups:
- White - Beginning swimmers, 15 minutes of warm up, 30-60 minutes of swim time, depending on the season
- Purple - Intermediate swimmers , 15 minutes of warm up, 60 minutes of swim time
- Gold - Advanced swimmers , 15 minutes of warm up, 90-120 minutes of swim time
Swimmers may move between practice groups during a season, at the head coach's discretion.

Tips for New Swimmers
For everyone:
- A good pair of one piece goggles is essential. Actually, two pairs of goggles. Goggles wear out from the chlorine (or end up lost) and it is important to have a backup. We recommend Speedo Hydrospex (or something similar) for younger kids and Speedo Vanquishers or TYR Black Ops (or something similar) for older kids. They come in several sizes and can be found at a variety of online and local retailers, like Swim Outlet, Amazon, Target, Meijer, or Dunham's.
- Long hair must be tied back in a ponytail, braid, or bun. A swim cap is strongly recommended.
- For meets, pack two towels (things get wet on deck), a sweatshirt to stay warm, water, and dry clothes to change into when the meet is over (packed in a separate plastic bag to stay dry). Snacks are recommended for long meets, but are not needed for short ones. Swimmers are expected to clean up after themselves on deck.
- Swimmer meet events will be available for viewing prior to the meet in the SportsEngine app, or by logging into your Team Unify account, visiting the meet event, and clicking "edit commitment." Swimmers must be "committed" to the meet online in order to swim.
- Many meets are tracked live using the MeetMobile app. There is a small fee to use this app.
For Boys:
- Swim trunks are ok, but jammers are preferred. Jammers are long form-fitting shorts, similar to bicycle shorts. They should be tight fitting. Loose swimwear creates extra drag in the pool (fine for training, not so great at meets).
For Girls:
- Girls must wear a one piece suit. A crossed back tends to stay on the shoulders better than a regular tank style but is not required. Suits should be snug to avoid extra drag in the pool (fine for training, not so great for meets).
