2024 Evendale Eagles Newsletter #1

Caroline Razzano

June 3, 2024

Welcome to the 2024 season of the Evendale Eagles swim team! If you have any pertinent information you need to get to the parents, please email me (Caroline Razzano) at [email protected]. Newsletters will go out every Monday morning starting next week and will include information you need for meets that week and any upcoming activities.

The most important action to take right now is to sign out of meets your swimmer will not be able to attend.

Upcoming dates to know:

June 4: Sign-out deadline for Apples & Bananas ASAP if you cannot attend

June 4: Deadline to order pizza for Apples & Bananas

June 5: Stroke and Turn Judge Clinic at St Bernard @ 6:00

June 6: Apples & Bananas Intra-Squad Meet at Evendale Pool. Arrive 5:45/ warmup 6:00 / meet starts at 6:30

Morning Practices times:

8:00-9:30 – 13 and over

9:30-10:30 – 10, 11 and 12 year olds

10:30-11:15 – 7, 8 and 9 year olds

11:15-11:45 – 6 and under

6 and Under Swimmers –For new swimmers, coaches will speak with each family once they have determined the best decision for your swimmer.

Apples and Bananas:

This is a fun intrasquad meet to start off the season. For those new to the Evendale Eagles swim team, all swimmers will be divided into two teams – Apples and Bananas. There will be a large sign (“team” assignments) hanging from the concession area. Teams will not be decided until last minute so please be patient and wait until that Thursday morning to see how the teams are set up. Also, after all practices that day, head to the concession area for our first snack morning and do a little pre-Apples and Bananas prep. Please note that ALL swimmers are assigned to a team (Apples or Bananas) so they can be part of the fun, even if they are not swimming in the meet.

Pizza party: Following the Apples and Bananas meet, we will have a pizza party at the pool. Tickets are $4 each and include two slices of pizza and a drink. Please submit payment with your activity form to the pool drop box no later than Tuesday, June 4.

Stroke and Turn Certification Meeting: We need more judges!  We are always low on Stroke and Turn Judges, so please attend if possible even if you don’t plan to volunteer in that role. If you are interested in learning how to officiate at our NSSL dual meets and become certified, there is a meeting this Wednesday June 5 at 6:00 PM at the St Bernard Rec Center in Teen CenterThis 1.5 hour yearly session will teach you everything you need to know to work our dual meets and qualify you to officiate. Returning officials that are not YMCA or USA Swimming certified will also need to get recertified at this session. Please consider attending this meeting as we are in need of stroke and turn officials, especially if you have younger swimmers.

Coaches:

We are excited for another great season with our amazing coaches! Our coaching staff for this summer includes:

15 & Over: Head Coach Debbie Walker ([email protected])

13-14: Jake Senter

11-12: Nick Stroh

9-10: Hannah Eversole

7-8: Jen Schell

6 and under: Ashlyn Hoffman and Mallory Green

Luke Wilkens is also returning, and he will be running the computer entries.

Team t-shirts

Please pick up your t-shirts from the Rec Center front desk if you have not yet done so. Please put your swimmer’s name in the shirts…there are a lot of team t-shirts and if one is lost, it would be a lot easier to reach its owner if there was a name.

Hershey First Lappers: The tradition of “Hershey First Lappers” will continue this year for our 8&under swimmers completing their first lap starting with the first official meet next week (Apples and Bananas is not an official meet). For those new to the team, a Hershey bar is awarded to young swimmers completing their first lap, at the discretion of the coach.

Private Lessons: Private lessons will once again be offered this year for those swimmers who would like a little extra training or for fine tuning specific strokes.   Please don’t add your own timeslot—look for timeslots the coaches have available or talk to them in person. Signups are linked through the team website and the coaches will update when they are available. Pay at the front desk of the Rec Center and bring your receipt to the coach providing your lesson.  https://www.gomotionapp.com/team/recnlee/page/private-lessons

Childcare for HOME Swim Meets: Childcare is available for your young non-swimmers during home meets. You must pre-register for this service at least 2 days prior to the meet by 12 PM by visiting the childcare room in person and pay at the front desk. There is a 2-hour limit and regular fees apply. Hours are 5:30-8 PM.

Activity Sheet Sign-Up Form: The activity form will again be used to sign up for the pizza party, the Senior Night ice cream social, the pre-championships party, the post-championships party, and the 13&up canoe trip. The form and fees (checks made payable to Evendale Swim Team) should be turned in via the pool drop box (not to the Rec center front desk). The first activity reservation deadline is Tuesday, June 4  – for the pizza party. ***If at all possible, please complete the form for the entire season with payment.*** This makes bookkeeping for the season more manageable.

The form is linked under “Parent” on the website and here:

Volunteer Requirements:  THANK YOU to everyone that has signed up! Your child will not be allowed to swim in meets until you have signed up to volunteer. Remember that each family is required to volunteer for *2-3 meets and an activity, unless your OLDEST child is a 6 and under; then the requirement is 1 meet job and 1 activity.

Championship jobs will be released and explained at a later date.

Meet Sign-Outs:  The coaches will assume your swimmers will be swimming in a meet unless you say otherwise. So, it is very important to sign your swimmers OUT of a meet as soon as you know they will not be able to swim (see below for instructions). The coaches do meet line ups up to two days prior to a meet so if you do not change the committed status on the website and your swimmers do not show up; it can cause problems, especially when it comes to relays. Of course, some situations cannot be avoided or planned. If this happens and you are within that 2-day window prior to a meet, please text Coach Debbie at 513-379-0683 as soon as possible and she will remove your children from the meet. Here are the steps to signing your swimmers out of a meet:

  • On Evendale Eagles’ website, under Events tab, find the meet in which you wish to sign out.
  • Click on “edit commitment”
  • Under “Member Name” find and click on your swimmer’s name
  • There is a drop box under “Declaration”, select “no”
  • Click on “save changes”
  • Repeat for each swimmer if you have more than one

Meet Schedule: Generally speaking, all meets begin at either 6:00, 6:15, or 6:30, depending on the size of teams. There could be a slight change in start times / warmup times which will be communicated in each Monday newsletter for the meets that week. It is assumed you will be at the meet unless you sign out. Please take time to review your schedule and sign out now.
