Marlin Volunteer Requirements

Implemented Date: April 15, 2016

Updated: May 11, 2022

Our team has minimum requirements for family involvement during the season in order to ensure that we have enough volunteers to perform all the jobs necessary to make the meets actually happen; yes, it takes a village!  Please note that these are minimum requirements and we welcome as much additional involvement as each family can manage.  In a pinch, families will be asked to help out during a meet even when they did not sign-up to do so beforehand.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Each family of a swimmer on the Marlins Swim Team must volunteer during the meets in which their swimmer is participating.  This includes, but is not limited to, families of the following groups:
    1. new members, including pre-team members who have graduated to the regular swim team
    2. returning members
  2. The following are the minimum points required per family:
  • Each family must earn 2 points for each swim meet that a swimmer attends.

Earning Additional Points:

  • Points are awarded in incriments of 2 points per session in a meet.
  • For example, if you work first half - timer (2 points) and second half - timer (2 points) = 4 points total

Points may only be earned at the following meets:

  • Time Trials
  • Dual Meets

Members Excluded from Volunteer Requirements:

  • All Nottingham Marlins Swim Team board members are excluded from the minimum number of volunteer points required each season.  It is understood that each board member’s position is considered a volunteer position.  It is also understood that each board member will step in to help/volunteer, in any capacity, during a meet, to ensure each meet is ran successfully.

Family Responsibility:

  1. Each family is responsible for signing up for their own volunteer position/s.  The sign up link is found on our website, underneath the meets tab.  Each meet has it’s own job-sign up tab.
  2. Each position is awarded a point value
    1. 2 points per position
  3. Your responsiblity:
  • Check in with the Volunteer Coordinator prior to the start of the meet
  • Show up at the start time of their volunteer position. No show = no points.
  • Track the number of points they complete throughout the season.
  • Inform the volunteer coordinator of job changes or modifications.

Pre-team Members:

  1. Each family of a swimmer on the Marlin’s pre-team must earn points as soon as their swimmer is moved from the pre-team to the regular team.
  2. Once on the regular team, refer to Minimum Requirements to determine points needed.

Suggestions for Families with Young Children:

  1. While we are sensitive to the fact that it may be difficult to volunteer for families with young children, these families are not exempt from volunteering.
  2. Please consider the following options:
    1. Volunteering for a position that can be completed at home (Ribbon position), or for a position that happens outside of meet hours (concessions stand and/or take down/clean up)
    2. One parent tends to the child, while the other parent volunteers
    3. Find someone to watch smaller children at home

Additional Volunteer Items that DO NOT Count Toward Total Points:

  1. Social events (Breakfast/Morning, Evening, Pep Rally's, etc.)
  2. If your swimmer chooses to participate in the optional meets below, a member of your adult family may be required to volunteer.
    1. Carroll County Invitational
    2. Straehle Invitational
    3. Jr. Championship Meet
    4. Relay Carnival
    5. Divisionals

Top Volunteer Club:

  1. At the end of the year, the volunteer coordinator will submit the top 10 member’s names, with the most volunteer points, for a drawing for a (1) free registration for the following swim season.
  2. The winner of this award will be announced at our end of the season banquet.

Failure to Fulfill Your Volunteer Commitment:

  1. If, for whatever reason, you are unable to obtain the required minimum points needed to fulfill your volunteer commitment, a charge of $100 will be added to your credit card on file at the end of the swim season.
