Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be a member of the Nottingham Swim Club to be on the swim team?
Yes, you must first become a member of the Nottingham Swim Club in order to register for the Marlins Swim Team. This rule is required by the Central Maryland Swim League (CMSL), our governing body. This rule tries to ensure that all teams in the CMSL league do not stack their team with year round swimmers, thus giving them an advantage over other teams.
What is CMSL?
CMSL stands for the Central Maryland Swim League. This is our governing body to ensure all swim meets follow the Rules of Swimming Competition.
How do I know what group/team I should sign my child(ren) up for?
The age for the season is determined by the child's age on May 30th. The age groups are 6 and under, 8 and under, 10 and under, 12 and under, 14 and under, and open.
If your child has never swam on our team and is in the 8 and under or 6 and under age groups or if you unsure if they can swim an entire lap - evaluations will need to be conducted and the coach will let you know if you can register for the team.
How do I register my child?
Please go to the home page of our website and click on Team Registration.
Do I need AAU Insurance and why do I need this?
All swimmer’s need AAU insurance to practice and swim at our meets. This is a requirement of the CMSL division. This protects all of the swimmers in case of injury.
What is the difference between the swim team and pre-team?
The Nottingham Marlins Pre-team provides children who are not yet able to swim the full length of the pool an opportunity to participate with the Marlins program. For more information, please refer to our website, under the Policies and FAQs tab, and then click on Pre Team.
When are practices?
Swim practice times can be found on our website under Practice Schedule.
Does my child(ren) have to swim in every meet?
Although we would encourage your child(ren) to swim at every meet, please do not worry if you are not able to make every meet. You can sign up for any meets you are able to attend.
Do I have to volunteer?
Yes and no – our volunteer policy is found on our website under the policies and FAQ tab. It is the responsibility of each family to understand the expectation and minimum requirements of our volunteer requirements.
Who do I reach out to if I have any questions?
All coaching staff and board members have been doing this for some time, and are a wealth of knowledge, and we encourage you to seek them out for more information. Their names are listed on our website under the tab Staff and/or Contact Us.
