Time Trials Details

Barracudas Presidents

We hope your swimmers are excited for Time Trials on Saturday! Time Trials is a great chance for swimmers (and parents!) to experience a mini-meet to help get their footing before the dual meets start. Below are some details for Saturday – please be sure to read through the details, and let us know if you have any questions.

Schedule

7:00 – Setup crews arrive

7:30 – Swimmers arrive and check in with your age group coach.

7:45 – deadline for checking in with your coach. If you happen to be running late, please text a friend to check you in, or contact Coach Laura via Remind or respond to this email and let us know you’re on your way. This helps us keep the meet running on time so we’re not trying to track down swimmers!

8:00 – Timers meeting by the gate to the baby pool

8:15 – National anthem/swimmers start lining up

8:30 – meet starts!

10:30-11:00 – expected meet ending time

Theme

The theme for the meet is BLUE OUT! Show your spirit by wearing your Huntington (or other) blue.

Swimmers who dress in theme will be entered into a raffle for a prize! Be sure to have your swimmer get their raffle ticket at the spirit table.

Concessions

We will have donuts and coffee and other goodies available for purchase.

We will be accepting cash, Zelle ([email protected]) and we now have Venmo ([email protected]).

“Tent City” Setup

For time trials, we will be utilizing the grass and tables. For new families, “tent city” gets its name from the pop-up semi-tents that families tend to use to help protect themselves from the shade. Purchase of these tents is not required – many families are happy to share space. Feel free to ask a returning family (or us/a member of the board) for advice!

We all need to do our part to respect pool property. If you see any behavior that concerns you, please kindly note this to the relevant parent/chaperone or mention it to us/a member of the swim board.

Bullpen

We have increased the number of volunteers for the bullpen this season to 4 volunteers for home meets. Junior coaches, age group coaches, assistant coaches, and our head coach will not be responsible for finding your swimmer when the bullpen is lining up for events. We are asking all parents to be aware of what number is being lined up and helping your swimmer to keep an eye on the event line up number as well. The bullpen for home meets will be under the double gazebos and there will be numbers displayed on the event number they are lining up.

Similarly, please be aware of where your swimmer is when not in the water/in line to swim. Our coaches need to be focused on swimmers in the water and cannot supervise other swimmers. Swimmers should NOT be congregating in the bathrooms or in other areas of the pool. Swimmers should be either supervised by an adult in tent city or – even better – cheering on other Barracudas!

Races

For Time Trials, reminder we exclude relays and Individual Medleys (IMs). There are also no bag tags for time trials.

Races are posted for time trials in the Sports Engine app. Before warm ups (even better before you leave in the morning) please use a sharpie and write your swimmer’s event numbers on their hand, arm, etc. You can view what events they are swimming by following these steps in your Sports Engine Motion App under Events:

  • Find Time Trials under Home Meet
  • Select Run
  • Find your swimmer by last name within the Member’s tab and you will see an event count.
  • Select your swimmer's name and a drop down will appear with the event and event number your swimmer is assigned to. Below is a screenshot of what you are looking for.

Race

We are implementing a new flow for swimmers after their race to receive feedback from the coaches. When a swimmer finishes their race, feel free to meet them with their towel and hug! Please then remind them to walk over to the coaches section and find their age group coach to receive feedback on their race. You can walk over with them. The coaches will be watching all races to give personalized feedback. It is okay if your swimmer does not want feedback. This is the best way for them to receive right in the moment what the coaches saw and any feedback they have. Also if your swimmer goes over to their coach for feedback, they will receive a treat!

Jobs

If you have signed up for a job for time trials, please be sure to note what time your job starts. Times vary based on the role. If you have any question on your job, please email Barracudas presidents ASAP.

Swim Meet 101

We have a section on the Barracudas website under the Parent Resources tab called Swim Meet 101…check it out here

Final note…it is OKAY if your swimmer feels nervous on Saturday morning. And it's even okay if they are not quite ready to jump in when it's their turn. The coaches today practiced with the younger age groups the whistle sequence with the starter. Tomorrow they will be setting up the starting blocks to continue practicing the whistle sequence with the starter.
