Classic/City Information, July practice schedule, and help needed!!
BARRACUDAS!!!! Last week was such a blast and we have another really fun week ahead. One of the best parts of the swim team is seeing the progress in swimming by these awesome CUDAS!
Meet specific emails will go out the day before each meet. We have 2 home meets this week (Tuesday and Saturday) and boy/girl invites are on Thursday. There will be a lot of emails so please make sure you are reviewing and email us anytime if you have questions. Also make sure you keep an eye on your Remind notification in the event there are any last minute changes.
Classic/City
Please take a moment to start declaring for the championship meets Classic (7/19) & City (7/26) if you know you will be swimming Classic or City. Not sure for which meet your swimmer is eligible? Details are noted below and available on our website. We know this can be a little confusing, especially if this is your first summer, so please don’t hesitate to reach out to Coach Laura or us with questions.
Please review your age group to see eligibility rules:
6&U, they can only swim at Classic (July 19)
13+, they can only swim at City (weekend of July 25- 26), no qualifying times are required
7-8, 9-10, 11-12: which meet they swim at (and which events) will be impacted by whether or not they have qualifying city times. You can view your swimmer’s best times in your Sports Engine Motion App > Membership > Best Times. Please note Huntington Time Trials do not count as a city qualifying time.
Other considerations:
- Swimmers can only attend one of either Classic or City.
- If a swimmer has a qualifying time for City in an event, they cannot swim that event at Classic but could still swim all other individual events. For example, if a 9-10 swimmer has a City qualifying 50 backstroke time, they can either swim backstroke at City (and only backstroke), or could swim 3 other individual events at Classic.
- For the City meet, 7/8 & 9/10 Swim in the AM; 11/12 and 13/14 swim in the PM on July 26th.
- For the Classic meet, all age groups will swim in the PM session this year on July 19th.
- Your swimmer needs to have competed in at least 3 dual meets to be eligible for City. You do not need to achieve a city qualifying time 3 times, just have attended 3 dual meets (time trials do not count but all invites (boy/girl/8U/high school) all count.
- Still not sure which meet your swimmer will attend? We know that oftentimes swimmers are on the cusp of qualifying for City and it’s too soon to determine which meet your swimmer will attend. Don’t worry – if you are available on both dates please just commit your swimmer to both meets for now, and a final determination can be made after July 15th when final times are known.
- We will be assigned a list of jobs (depending on how many entries we have) for Classic and City which if your swimmer is swimming, you will be assigned a job.
Classic and City are AWESOME!!!!
Both Classic and City are fantastic opportunities for our swimmers to participate in a championship meet setting at one of our high schools. Classic Championship this year is hosted at Neuqua Valley High School; City Championship is hosted at Naperville Central High School. Watching the events at Classic is just as exciting as watching the City meet! We highly recommend participating regardless of which meet your swimmer would attend.
