The Stingrays participate in the following Swim Leagues:

The NVSL: Saturday Morning meets, Divisional Relays, Individual Divisionals & All-Stars

  • The Northern Virginia Swim League (NVSL) is one of the largest swim leagues in the country encompassing 102 teams in 17 divisions.

  • The Stingrays are proud to be a Division 3 team for the 2025 summer season. Prior to the start of the summer season, teams are organized by the NVSL by Division based on points earned and team rankings from the prior years’ dual meets.

  • NVSL meets are competitive “dual” meets, meaning between two teams, and include both individual events (one heat each) and team relay events.

  • Swimmers for a Saturday meet earn their spot by swimming the fastest times in each stroke. For each stroke and each age group, the team will post a “Top 10 Ladder”.  Generally speaking, if your swimmer is in the top 3 on this ladder, they will likely swim on Saturdays, should they desire.  In addition, at the Head Coach’s discretion, your swimmer may also earn a spot and be asked to swim in a Saturday relay event(s).

  • The youngest age group for Saturday meets is 8&U. Although possible, it is not usual for a 6&U swimmer to swim at one of these meets.

The WFDL: Monday Early Evening Meets

  • The Western Fairfax Developmental League (WFDL) encompasses many of the larger swim teams in our local geographical area.

  • Monday meets are open to ALL swimmers of all ages and abilities. The number of strokes is limited and Head Coach approval is required in certain circumstances. For example, breaststroke and butterfly for younger swimmers needs to be deemed legal by the Head Coach prior to signing up to swim it.

  • All individual strokes plus Individual Medley “IM” are on Monday nights.

  • Certain rules apply to swimmers who had the opportunity to swim on Saturday, as they are not allowed to swim that same stroke(s) on Monday but may swim Exhibition (no ribbon) in order to obtain a legal time in a different stroke(s), as well as swim IM.
