Welcome to the LRR Stingrays 2025 Season!  It is always a pleasure to see all our returning families and new families join the Stingrays.  Swimmers of all abilities are always welcome!  Summer swim is a time where we strive to have fun swimming and an environment that is enjoyed by the whole family!    We are confident your child will have a positive experience in either or both of these leagues...the NVSL or the WFDL.

Membership Requirements:

The Stingrays is a neighborhood team.  For your child to be eligible to participate, your family must live in the Little Rocky Run neighborhood.  In addition:

  • Each swimmer must possess a valid pool pass.
  • The eligibility of a swimmer to compete in an age group is determined by his/her age on June 1 of the current year.
  • Your swimmer must be 18 years of age or younger as of June 1st, to be eligible to swim in the summer.
  • New swimmers may not participate in regularly scheduled practices until they have been evaluated to ensure they are properly placed.   The safety of all swimmers is our top priority.
  • Parents are required to volunteer for jobs that support efficient running of meets.  For the 2025 season you are required to fulfill 7 job assignments.  If your swimmer qualifies to participate Divisional Relays, Individual Divisional Championships, All Star Relays or Individual All Stars, you should expect to volunteer for a job during that meet, as well.

Practices:

Team practices for the Stingrays begin on the day after Memorial Day, and take place in the afternoons until the end of the school year.  Morning practices will start the day after Fairfax County public schools' last day of school.  Practice times vary depending on your child's age group.  Practices are held Monday through Friday, with one Saturday morning practice that take place during the timeframe between Memorial Day and the Last Day of School.  Time Trials are always the Saturday morning after school lets out.  For your knowledge in advance, parents are not allowed on the pool deck during any practice times.  This is for insurance/liability reasons, but more importantly, our coaches are there to instruct and ensure the safety of each of our swimmers.  This policy is strictly enforced.

Suits, Shirts, Caps:

  • Our team selects a new suit design every 2 years.  A new design was selected in 2023, so this year we will have a new suit design availble for purchase.
  • Swimmers new to the team, or requiring a new size, should contact Cassel's Sports & Awards in Herndon.
  • Team t-shirts are provided to each swimmer included with registration.
  • Please check your swimmer shirt size under My Account -> Members.
  • Each swimmer will receive a swim cap with Stingrays logo included with registration.
  • Optional personalized caps can be ordered through the Metro Swim Shop portal.

Little Stingers:

The Little Stinger program is for our youngest swimmers who have limited time in the water.  The purpose is to create a “water safe” environment that teaches our youngest swimmers the first basics of learning how to swim.

  • Typical age range from 4-8 years old with 4 being the minimum.
  • Safety in the water and on the pool deck is top priority
  • Coaches will assess the abilities of all Little Stingers and place them in different practice groups according to skill level.
  • The different practice groups will each be 30 minutes and happen M-F mornings.
  • Practices start after the last day of school with FCPS.
  • Team Suits are not required for Little Stingers
