Swimmer Eligibility

MCC Swim Team is part of the Orinda Moraga Pool Association (OMPA) and abides by the rule that the swimmer "age group" is determined by their age on June 15th.  They will swim in that age group for the entire summer. Age group swimmers are listed as follows:

6 & Under (water safe or soon to be water safe swimmers that can complete a lap independently and are learning basic Stroke and technique and side breathing.  These swimmers can compete in meets at the coaches discretion)

7-8's , 9-10's, 11-12's, 13-14's, 15-18's (swimmers have mastered all strokes and compete in team meets with OMPA guidelines)

Miniwaves (ages 4-6) The Miniwave Program was develoepd to transition swimmers from being water-safety competent to being ready to participate in our swim team should they choose to. Most participants range in age from 4 to 6 years old. The program is designed to introduce all four competitive strokes. With a low swimmer to coach ratio, children are mentored with positive reinforcement in a fun learning environment. Prior to the start of the Miniwaves Program, the Director will provide an in-pool evaluation to ensure your child is ready to be a successful Miniwave!

TYPES OF MEETS

"A" Meet - an "A" meet is generally for the 3 fastest swimmers in each event for each age group. There is only one heat per event.

"A+2" Meet - an "A+2" meet means there are 2 additional heats, meaning for an away meet there is room for 9 of the fastest swimmers in each event for each age group. For a home meet, MCC has 9 lanes and can accommodate 15 MCC swimmers.

"A/B" Meet - an "A/B" meet is a meet in which the entire team participates without limiting the number of entries per event. The first heat is scored as an "A" meet. All subsequent heats are considered together for the purposes of assigning "places".

"B" Meet - Any swimmer with a Gold time is not eligible for a "B" meet. Often times a swimmer with a Silver time cannot swim that event at a "B" meet. Please consult a coach if you are unsure of your eligibility.
