Swim Team News ~ Week of May 27

WEEK OF MAY 27, 2024

Dear Swim Team Families,

We hope you enjoyed the long weekend. There is a lot on the horizon as we roll into summer (including our first swim meet - yay!), read on for important updates.

In School season practices wrap up this week. Tomorrow, Wednesday May 29, is the last practice. MVP is closed on Thursday May 30.

Out of School season and Mini Marlins begin on Monday June 3. Out of School season practice times are listed below. Please adhere to your age group time.

Our first swim meet is fast approaching and it’s a split meet against Moraga Ranch on June 5 and 8. A split meet means that 11 & Up swimmers compete on Wednesday June 5 and 10 & Under swimmers compete on Saturday June 8. Both meets are at Moraga Ranch Swim Club, famous for their tri-tip salad. The deadline to register for this meet is June 2 (11 & Up) and June 5 (10 & Under). More info including the meet sheet will be sent a few days before.

MVP Swim Team’s Parent Party (the only Parent Party of the season!) is Sunday June 9, 5:00-8:00pm. Enjoy a casual evening at MVP with new and longtime friends.  Indulge in a catered bbq dinner (including vegan options), lawn games, and the soon to be famous “White Marlin” gift exchange. Tickets are $55 per person. You may RSVP using the Paperless Post invite sent last week. This is an adults only event.

Swim Team Picture Day is Thursday June 13 at MVP (no practices). This is for all age groups, including Mini Marlins. A professional photographer from HomeTeam Sports Photo will be onsite at MVP to take two poses of your swimmer - one pose will be used for the age group photo and team photo that will be featured in the OMPA program, and the second pose is an individual photo poolside. The age group and team photos will be composite photos. If you don’t know what a composite photo is, see examples here

Sign up for your picture day appointment here. Swimmers must wear their MVP swim team suits. If you do not have one, we recommend wearing solid navy blue.

There is no obligation to buy a photo package; however, if your swimmer does not attend, they will not appear in the age group or team photo. There was a lot of confusion around this last year. If you have questions, reach out to us.

You must opt-in via text message before picture day to receive the ordering link. Once pictures are ready for ordering, all those that have opted-in via text will receive the private link and access code to place their orders. All orders are mailed directly to parents' homes. Text "2024MVP" to 90738 to opt-in for picture day.

Big Buddies is a go - we have 60 big buddies signed up. Big buddies, be on the lookout later this week for a separate email with your little buddy names.

It’s now time to register for summer swim meets - all meets are posted in the Events section on www.mvpswimteam.com. Registration deadlines for each meet can be found on the 2024 Swim Team Calendar. As a reminder, there are no late adds if you miss a registration deadline.

Commit/Decline to Swim Meets

Did you know that all of the season’s swim meets are already in the Events section of www.mvpswimteam.com? If you know your summer schedule, you can edit your swimmer’s declaration for each meet of the season.

To sign a swimmer in or out of a meet on www.mvpswimteam.com: On the homepage scroll down to Events and click on More Events. All meets will appear in a list. Click on the Edit Commitment button for a swim meet, select your swimmer, and change the declaration to “declined” or “committed”.

If you are new to swim team, guidance on how to do this is in the Swim Team Handbook on page 14. Generally you need to commit/decline to a swim meet at least 5 days in advance and 2 weeks in advance for invitationals. Deadlines are on the 2024 Swim Team Calendar. Get in the habit of editing commitments well in advance. If you do not edit your swimmer’s commitment by the deadline then they will not be entered into the meet.
