Swim Team News ~ Week of June 24
WEEK OF JUNE 24, 2024
Dear Swim Team Families,
Wow…so…many…laps…today at MVP’s Lap-A-Thon! Thank you to our swimmers for their hard work and to the parents who came to count laps. Also, a big shout out to Michelle Jun and Kate Biedelman for organizing such a fun event. We appreciate you all.
We are rolling right along this summer with a busy week ahead - a swim meet at Meadow this Wednesday, the OPP Relays at Orinda Park Pool on Saturday, and then MVP’s biggest event of the year - MVP’s Bottoms Up on Sunday. Bottoms Up Meet Entries are attached. Meet Entries for Meadow will be ready soon and OPP Relays will be sent later this week.
A reminder that all practices are canceled the week of July 1. Have fun and enjoy the week off with your family. If you are in town, join MVP as we march in the Orinda 4th of July Parade and enjoy an after party at MVP, sure to be a great time with fun games and great eats from Top Dog. This is a clubwide, family friendly event so spread the word to your non-swim team friends.
UPCOMING SWIM MEETS ~ 2 REGISTRATION DEADLINES THIS WEEK
The registration deadline for the Meadow Mini Meet @ Meadow is TOMORROW June 25. This meet is for 8 & Under swimmers and will take place on Sunday July 14 at Meadow. It's the only meet where kids swim their actual age on the day of the meet. Swimmers will compete against others of their own age: 7 year olds only against 7 year olds, etc. It is possible for a Mini Marlin to swim in this meet if the coaches think that they are ready come July 14. If you have a Mini Marlin, you may want to register your swimmer just in case. More details to come.
The registration deadline for the Sleepy Hollow B Invitational @ Sleepy Hollow is Wednesday June 26. This invitational meet is for swimmers in all age groups who qualify as "B" swimmers based on specific qualifying times and will take place on Sunday July 21. This means that only swimmers who have no gold times in either 2023 or 2024 may swim in this invitational. More details to come.
IMPORTANT REMINDER ABOUT SWIMMER PARTICIPATION IN INVITATIONAL MEETS
Invitational Meets are meets in which MVP is invited to participate along with other clubs. These include Meadow Mini, OPP Relays, Sleepy Hollow B, and MVP’s Bottoms Up. Invitational meets are fundraisers for the hosting club. MVP pays a fee per swimmer who participates. If a swimmer is a no show on the day of the meet, MVP is charged a “scratch” fee for that swimmer who was entered in the meet but did not swim. Per MVP’s Swim Team Handbook, if your swimmer is entered in an invitational meet and is a no show, your family will receive a fine determined by the MVP swim team executive board. Also, it is a real bummer for kids in a relay if one swimmer doesn’t show. It ends up being a mad scramble for the coaches to find another swimmer to participate. If there is an invitational meet coming up that your swimmer will not be able to attend, please sign out of that meet or email us ASAP if the registration deadline has passed. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
SWIM TEAM LESSONS ~ TBD FOR THE WEEK OF JULY 1
All swim team practices are canceled the week of July 1. We are currently determining if there are any coaches available the week of July 1 to do lessons. Stay tuned.

BOTTOMS UP VOLUNTEERING FOR SWIMMERS AGES 8, 10, AND 12 ~ JUNE 30
Calling ALL swimmers ages 8, 10, and 12! Help run MVP's beloved Bottoms Up Invitational happening this Sunday at MVP. Get a behind the scenes look at how a swim meet is run while cheering on fellow Marlins. Volunteer jobs include helping to sticker ribbons, selling items at the snack shack, and distributing heat winner ribbons and water for timers during the meet. We have many open slots, please SIGN UP HERE TO VOLUNTEER.
OMPA PROGRAM ADS ~ DUE JULY 3
Support your swimmer’s accomplishments with an ad in the printed OMPA program. Swimmers LOVE seeing their photo and an uplifting note from parents in the program. To sign up: submit payment, a note to your swimmer(s), and your photo(s) using this link OMPA Ad Link. Advertising rates are: $170 for a full page; $95 for a half page; $55 for a quarter page; and $40 for a business card. Reach out to Kristen Brunson with questions.
ORINDA 4TH OF JULY PARADE AND AFTER PARTY AT MVP ~ JULY 4
Join your MVP friends for a fun 4th of July celebration! MVP will be participating in the Orinda 4th of July parade this year so don your MVP spirit wear, decorate your bike, scooter, stroller, or wagon and show your Marlin pride (decorating party at MVP on July 3). Reserve your spot in the parade here.
After the parade we will head to MVP for an afternoon of family fun, food, and games for all ages including pool relay races, water balloon toss, and other festive games. Top Dog will be onsite selling food for purchase. Hope to see you there!
