Swim Team News ~ Week of July 1

Jennifer Curran

WEEK OF JULY 1, 2024

Dear Swim Team Families,

What an amazing weekend of swimming!

OPP Relays on Saturday, always a fun time - swimmers, moms, dads, and coaches all rocked their events!

Bottoms Up at MVP on Sunday - wow, our pool looked fantastic. And MVP finished 3rd overall! We have heard nothing but compliments from other clubs on how well run and organized our event was. Kudos to Bottoms Up Chair Vinita Anantavat and Bottoms Up Volunteer Coordinator Phoebe Harris Millman for their countless hours of planning, preparation, and execution. You are so appreciated! And thank you to our entire parent community for your help. If you are new to the swim team this year, now you know why this is an all hands event. It truly takes a village to pull an event of this magnitude off and do it well. We’d like to also acknowledge Erik Hebert, David Sway, and Nicki Flanagan for going above and beyond in their volunteer roles. Thank you.

A reminder in lieu of regular practices this week, or coaches created “Friends and Family Workouts”, age group specific workouts for our swimmers. Grab a sibling, parent, or friend and get a great workout in while having fun. All workouts are posted on the homepage of  www.mvpswimteam.com. Don’t forget to post a photo on our team Facebook page!

If you are in town this week, join MVP as we march in the Orinda 4th of July Parade and enjoy an after party at MVP, sure to be a great time with fun games and great eats from Top Dog. This is a clubwide, family friendly event so spread the word to your non-swim team friends. Our gratitude goes out to Karleen Stern and the parent volunteer team who are leading this event.

MVP is a special place and we <3 our swim team community!

UPCOMING SWIM MEETS ~ 1 IMPORTANT REGISTRATION DEADLINE THIS WEEK

The registration deadline for Orinda Moraga Pools Association Championships (OMPA) is TODAY July 1. OMPA is held at Campolindo High School’s Soda Aquatic Center beginning the afternoon of Friday August 2 and ending on Sunday August 4. This is the final meet of the summer for our team and the pinnacle of the season. It is a highlight for swimmers and parents alike. Many swimmers achieve their best times of the season at this meet. We cap off the weekend with a celebratory team after party at MVP the evening of Sunday August 4. Trust us, you and your swimmer do not want to miss this experience!

SWIM TEAM LESSONS ~ GO LIVE ON JULY 2

ORINDA 4TH OF JULY PARADE AND AFTER PARTY AT MVP ~ JULY 4

Join your MVP friends for a fun 4th of July celebration! MVP will be participating in the Orinda 4th of July parade this year so don your MVP spirit wear, decorate your bike, scooter, stroller, or wagon and show your Marlin pride (decorating party at MVP on July 3). Reserve your spot in the parade here

After the parade we will head to MVP for an afternoon of family fun, food, and games for all ages including pool relay races, water balloon toss, and other festive games. Top Dog will be onsite selling food for purchase. Hope to see you there!

OMPA PROGRAM ADS ~ DEADLINE EXTENDED TO JULY 7

Support your swimmer’s accomplishments with an ad in the printed OMPA program. Swimmers LOVE seeing their photo and an uplifting note from parents in the program. To sign up: submit payment, a note to your swimmer(s), and your photo(s) using this link OMPA Ad Link. Advertising rates are: $170 for a full page; $95 for a half page; $55 for a quarter page; and $40 for a business card. Reach out to Kristen Brunson with questions.

PARKING LOT SAFETY REMINDER

Please review the following guidelines with your spouses, babysitters/nannies, and teenage drivers:

  • Drive slowly and carefully being mindful of parked cars that are not fully pulled into their parking spot

  • Look for children walking/running/biking through the lot (a lot of kids walk/bike to and from the pool)

  • Pull out of the lot slowly looking out for cross traffic (in both directions) on Risa Court

PLEASE REVIEW REMAINING SWIM MEET COMMITMENTS

Please review your swimmer’s commitments for the remainder of the season and sign them in/out accordingly on www.mvpswimteam.com. We had several last minute cancellations for OPP Relays and Bottoms Up. We understand that sometimes the unexpected happens; however, this created extra work for our coaches and computer team during an already jammed packed weekend. We appreciate your attention to this.

REMINDER ABOUT VOLUNTEER NO SHOWS

Unfortunately we had a few volunteer no shows at Bottoms Up. As we head into the second half of the summer season, we’d like to remind everyone about our policies regarding no shows that are outlined in the MVP Swim Team Handbook:

No Shows

  • Any person who does not show up on time for a dual meet work assignment will be fined $200. This fine must be paid to the Swim Team Treasurer within two weeks of the missed obligation.  If fines are not paid by the end of the season, your right to enroll in the following swim season is forfeited.

  • Any swim team family that has not fulfilled all of their required work obligations by the end of the season will be required to pay $200 per meet or other team event obligation not fulfilled and this may disrupt registration for the following season. There are no exceptions.

MVP’s Bottoms Up Invitational
