Dear Swim Team Families,
We hope that you enjoyed a fun holiday week off with your family. It was inspiring to see so many swimmers participating in the team’s first-ever “Friends and Family Workouts”. Thank you to our coaches for creating these challenging age group workouts! What a great way to keep swimmers engaged during their “week off”.
If you were in town and attended the Orinda 4th of July parade, MVP was hard to miss - over 100 strong! Despite the heat, swimmers and parents alike shared many laughs while walking in the parade. Who knew horses pooped so much?! Thank you to Karleen Stern, Katie Tuck and the rest of the planning committee for organizing the parade and throwing a fun club wide after party. A special shoutout goes out to Igor and Catie Urisman for going above and beyond as helpers. We sense a new 4th of July tradition!
We have an exciting week ahead - two home swim meets and one away Invitational meet. Orinda Park Pool @ MVP (A/B) on Wednesday, Orinda Country Club @ MVP (A+2) on Saturday, and the Meadow Mini Invitational @ Meadow (for 8&Under swimmers) on Sunday.
OMPA SHIRTS AND CAR FLAGS ~ DEADLINE TO ORDER IS TODAY
Parents - let’s fill the stands with this year’s shirt design made exclusively for OMPA. Remember that swimmers receive a free shirt if registered for the swim team by 5/12. This ordering window is meant for adults only.
Car flags are back! If you are a new family, decorating your car for OMPA is a BIG thing in Lamorinda. We don’t have car flags every year, so don’t miss out on the opportunity to order them this year.

MVP Marlin Ball on Thursday July 18. Your swimmer does not want to miss this annual tradition. The deadline to register is TOMORROW.
Orinda Country Club @ MVP (A+2) on Saturday July 13. The deadline to register is Wednesday July 10.
Moraga Country Club @ MVP (B) on Wednesday July 17. The deadline to register is Sunday July 14.
SWIM TEAM LESSONS ~ GO LIVE ON TUESDAY JULY 9

MVP SWIM TEAM’S MARLIN BALL ~ THURSDAY JULY 18, 5:30-8:00PM
Marlin Ball is a cherished tradition that celebrates relationship building and bonding across the age groups that your swimmer will not want to miss! Each participating swimmer will be assigned to a date group composed of older and younger swimmers by the coaches. Each group will enjoy a meal together on the lawn. Boys are responsible for bringing dinner and a picnic blanket. Girls bring drinks, dessert, plates, napkins, and utensils. After dinner, date groups enjoy the party together. There will be music and dancing, a photo booth, crafts, games, and a best dressed contest. Attire is formal and this year’s theme is masquerade.
While swimmers enjoy the party, parents stay for a parent potluck! Please bring a dish and/or drink to share and enjoy hanging out with the best swim team parent community in Lamorinda. Feel free to dress in masquerade attire, or come as you are. After dinner, there will be a silent auction with proceeds to benefit MVP. In the past, members have generously donated items ranging from art to use of vacation property to hosted gourmet dining experiences, such as a sushi making night. If you have a fun idea for an event or you have any item or experience to offer, we’d love to hear from you. You can either donate as a family or a group of members - any submissions, small or large, are appreciated. Please email a one page item description to Jane Bordalo by Monday, July 15.

REMINDER ABOUT SWIMMER PARTICIPATION IN INVITATIONAL MEETS
Please review your swimmer’s commitments for the remainder of the season and sign them in/out accordingly on www.mvpswimteam.com. For Invitationals such as Meadow Mini and OMPA, MVP pays a fee per swimmer to participate. Families are subject to a fine if their swimmer does not end up swimming. As a reminder, per the MVP Swim Team Handbook:
Invitational Meets
Invitational Meets are meets in which MVP is invited to participate, along with numerous other clubs. Invitational meets are fundraisers for the hosting club. There is a FEE, paid by the swim team, for each swimmer who participates, based on entries per swimmer. In the event a swimmer is unable to participate in one of these invitational meets, they must be signed out of the meet at least two weeks prior to the meet date. MVP will be charged a “scratch” fee for any swimmer who is entered, but subsequently does not swim. Because of the fees MVP is required to pay for entries, failure to sign out of an invitational will result in a fine determined by the MVP swim team executive board.
REMINDER ABOUT VOLUNTEER NO SHOWS
Unfortunately we had another volunteer no show for the 4th of July event. As we head into the second half of the summer season, we’d like to remind everyone about our policies regarding no shows that are outlined in the MVP Swim Team Handbook:
No Shows

Any person who does not show up on time for a work assignment will be fined $200. This fine must be paid to the Swim Team Treasurer within two weeks of being invoiced. If fines are not paid by the end of the season, your right to enroll in the following swim season is forfeited.

Any swim team family that has not fulfilled all of their required work obligations by the end of the season will be required to pay $200 per meet or other team event obligation not fulfilled and this may disrupt registration for the following season. There are no exceptions.
