September Update (9/14/22): Parent Meeting, Volunteering, Parent Board

This week has been a busy one! We have several things going on, including the meet, parent meeting, and finishing up registrations.

 

First, let’s address the parent meeting tonight at 6pm in the Y conference room (same room as registration meeting). This meeting will be mostly for parents who are new to swim meets and will go over what to expect during the meet. I will also share the powerpoint and a recording of the meeting, so I hope everyone looks through it because it has important information that will be helpful for all families (timeline, spectator info, etc).

I will also share the heat sheets so everyone can see where and what their swimmers are swimming. I recommend opening these on a computer, and pressing ctrl+F (command+F I think for Apple users), and then typing in your swimmer’s last name. This should highlight and help you find your event/heat/lane assignments quickly, otherwise you will need to just read through and look through “SVYA” swimmers.

 

During the parent meeting, I will ask about interest in volunteering positions such as officiating. I encourage everyone to click on this google form and give a response so we can gauge our capacity to host here in Mount Vernon: https://forms.gle/PDxbFboeSa3KvVxk9 

 

The form will also ask about interest in the parent board. While I do not have concrete positions in mind right now, our team would just like to see what interest there is to join the parent board. In the past, this group helped with a lot of fundraising to provide more opportunities for our swimmers to compete and have fun. I will have meetings with this new board and will work with them to help decide important team decisions such as attending certain swim meets and more. While decisions regarding the SVYA program ultimately falls on coaching and administrative staff, I want to be able to provide a place for parents to give their voice and input as this is our team and want everyone to be a part of that! I am planning on having a team meeting following our meet with BBST, potentially being on Wednesday 9/21 at 6pm, but I will post more about that soon.
