November Update 11/3: Dryland reschedule, upcoming dates, meet recap
Hi all,
I hope everyone had a great start to their November month! As we head deeper into Fall we are starting to ramp up practices and start to look ahead to the championship meets coming up in January and February. We have some important information to share:
- Dryland practice for Tidal Wave will be moving to AFTER practice now! They will be upstairs in the same studio B for about 30 minutes after swim practice ends. Hopefully this alleviates the need to rush from school:)
- Dryland practice for Tsunami and Riptide groups will be coming early next year. For now, I will give recommendations and we will be handing out gear (yoga mat and stretch band kits). We want to make sure that our swimmers are not being overworked during high school season and that our youngest are gradually increasing intensity to avoid unneccesary injury and burnout.
- Our next meet will be another home meet with Whatcom Y on December 4th! Details are being negotiated and I will post more information as soon as possible. To participate at the YMCA State Championship meet, you need to attend 2 YMCA sanctioned meets (so far we have had 1, the other meet with Whatcom). There will be another Y meet we will be attending in early January, so please be sure to make them all if you want to go to Y-State!
Congratulations to our swimmers who participated in the IST Open down at King County Aquatics Center (KCAC)! We had a ton of great swims from our 10 participants, including 28 PBs and 15 top 6 finishes! With this meet, Landon Taylor racked up an impressive 8 personal best times!
Big thank you to all the parents, volunteers, and staff that made the Halloween Trunk-or-Treat possible!! Our volunteers are the backbone of the team and make many of these fun moments possible.
As someone who still is relatively active within the sport of swimming, you will often see me in the pool before practice testing out some of the workouts that our coaching staff plans. Sometimes I try out practices from reputable USMS/USA Swim resources and adapt them for our team, and we all try to keep up to date on the latest health and conditioning research. Below is a couple of things I thought I'd like to share, feel free to check them out if you like:
And a video that I appreciated listening to during my morning run that talks about mental training:)
Best,
Joseph Shelly
