December Update 12/12: Important info for this week
Hi SVYA,
Hope you all had a great weekend! As we head into our last week before winter break, I wanted to share a quick breakdown of this week.
- Wednesday December 14th is our Winter Break party! We will have a sock exchange and tie dye station for everyone interested from 6:00 to 6:30. You will need to provide your own socks and goodies to participate in the sock exchange, and bring a cotton t-shirt for the tie-dye stations. Both of these activities are optional, and the rest of the time the whole team (all practice groups) will be in the pool from 5:00-6:00!
- Friday December 16th is a combined practice for Tsunami and Riptide swimmers! After a brief warm-up, our most experienced swimmers will be coaching our youngest group, leading them and teaching them swim technique in the water. This is a great way for our high school swimmers to develop their leadership skills, and our younger swimmers to have positive and inspiring SVYA swimmer role models! If you can, please be sure to be there:)
- Saturday December 17th is our swim meet at the Stanwood-Camano YMCA! This was an event that was just recently added, and so please be sure to check it out and sign up if interested. The registration deadline is tomorrow (Tuesday, December 13th) at 9:00pm!
- Winter break starts on December 19th! I will still be around but there will not be formal practice schedules. If any of the team is in the area and want to swim during this time, there will be laminated workouts available kept in the office. Swimmers will need to ask the lifeguards for the swim team workouts, and make sure to return them.
Also, if anyone has connections with local businesses that may be interested in helping our team fundraise for equipment/scholarships this coming new year, send me an email! I will be working on a specific list of what our team needs / would benefit from and will update our website to reflect that in the next couple of weeks. I know in the past we had success with Swim-Up-The-Skagit and a flower basket sale which helped our team get the electronic time systems among other things. One thing I know for sure is a scoreboard for meets would be very helpful for spectators and swimmers:)
Best,
Joseph Shelly
