Results from Skagit Fall Invite 2023

Joseph Shelly

Good evening all,

I am excited to share the results from our home meet today! I will be emailing the PDF to those that were signed up shortly after posting this newletter, but wanted to give a brief recap of the event:

  • With 107 swimmers signed up for the meet, spanning Whatcom-Snohomish Counties, we had 42 in attendance out of 46 signed up. Those 42 swimmers made 81 individual personal best swims (not including relays), way to go team!
  • We had many new swimmers swim new official times, congratulations to all our new swimmers and swim families for beginning their competitive swim journey. 19 of those swimmers had their first meet today!
  • The biggest time drops go to Ezra Dryden with a 15.92 drop in the 100 Free, and Russell Venner with a 14.61 drop in the 100 Breast!
  • We had Micah McNeil swimming new qualifying times for YMCA Regional Championships in the 50 Free and 50 Fly! Congratulations on joining the Y Regional Championship team!
  • Levi and Uriah Slagg were less than a second off of the 50 Free times for the YMCA Regional Championships, I have a feeling we will have several more swimmers qualify this year :)
  • I will go through the timer sheets and find our heat winners. I owe some swimmers a heat winner duck! We had to draw all our volunteers towards timing to make up for our power failure and lack of touchpads, sorry for not getting those right away and thank you for your patience. Luckily I was told it was an easy fix and should be good well before our next home meet!
  • We had some DQs, and while this will mean that times will not be official, this is a good learning opportunity for swimmers, especially those that are just starting out. This is also very helpful information for the coaches, to see what technique information is retained when a swimmer is in that high stress/competitive setting. I have had my fair share of DQs when I was a young swimmer, and definitely help make sure the corrections are made for next time! Coaches will have DQ information so that each swimmer is practicing those skills in the upcoming week(s).

As always, HUGE thank you to our timers, officials, hospitality, and all volunteers!! Without help from our volunteers, these meets are not possible at all. And big thank you to Coach Jenn and Coach Isaac for leading SVYA to a successful first home meet!

Best,
Joseph Shelly
