Welcome Back! Swim Team Registration and season start information

Joseph Shelly

Happy September Tritons,

We are officially back this week (after Labor day) -

For those of you joining us for the first time, welcome to the team! And for our returning swimmers, welcome back! Receiving this newsletter is confirmation that your account is active and the website is working. I have several pieces of information to share as we embark on a new swim year:

Membership/billing:

I was made aware of TeamUnify missing the mark on a couple of billing lines, but it should all be fixed now. If you notice anything wrong, please let me know and I will fix it ASAP! The annual registration fee is $50 just like previous year's, but this time it was made to be "per account" rather than "per swimmer." More information can be found on our team handbook (page 14): https://www.gomotionapp.com/team/recpssvy/page/workshare/team-hand-book

As we enter a new swim year, our USA Swimming memberships will soon be available for renewal. Once USA Swimming sends me our registration link, I will forward it to everyone. ALL swimmers must have a USA Swimming membership for insurance and sanctioning purposes (as we are a dually endorsed YMCA&USA team). I will include brief instructions on how to register/renew your USA membership once it is available.

If you are unsure what practice group your swimmer belongs to, please reach out to me! The practice schedule is up to date on our website, under the "About Us" tab.

Team Handbook and Code of Conduct:

Please consider reading the team handbook in advance! I have updated it for the 2024-2025 season, so information should be up to date. The handbook also includes the code of conduct, which will need to be signed within the first couple weeks of practices. I will be passing these out during practice, but if you want to get it done early, it is on page 16-18. We will be requiring a parent signature as well to verify the Code was read.

Swim Gear list:

Here is a quick rundown of swim gear for each practice group:

Riptide Required Gear:

  • Fins
  • Snorkel

Tidal Wave Required Gear:

  • Fins
  • Snorkel

Tsunami Required Gear:

  • Fins
  • Snorkel
  • Hand paddles

Recommendations to specific types of gear can be found on our SwimOutlet store page here: https://www.swimoutlet.com/collections/svya

If you find a better deal elsewhere, you are totally welcome to shop around! If you are unsure if a certain piece of equipment is up to standard or is the correct type, please don't hesitate to ask me.

Team Events and Meet Schedule updates:

I have updated our calendar and meet schedule up to the February Last Chance Qualifier. These are all subject to change and to meet host availability, but should give a decent estimate as to what days we will be competing! If new opportunities should arise and be listed, I will make sure to let everyone know well in advance. Our calendar tab should also be updated with all planned breaks up to the end of August 2025. I plan on having a mock meet in September, but will share the date as soon as I can confirm a time.

Other News:

  • I have fixed my 3D printer and will be making the June monthly challenge badges for swimmers that completed the "fly in jeans" challenge! Our September monthly challenge will be revealed after the first week along with the Y Core Value of the season.
  • We will have a tab on our website with current badge totals, and a rewards list to help keep track of everything in case your swim team bag tag with the badges was lost. Our team has not had a system like this before, but I am hoping that it is a fun new tradition we start and keep for years to come :)
  • Swimmers - please check your mailboxes! There is still stuff in several folders waiting to be picked up. New swimmers will have their mailbox folders made later this month.

I am excited to see everyone again and start another great swim year with the Tritons!

See you soon,
Joseph Shelly
