Oct 21 Update: Events, Meet results, deadlines, and more!
Good afternoon Tritons,
I got a big update newsletter today with a bunch of important information, so I'll try my best to make it readable and not hard to look at!
Meet Results - IST Open
Let's start with the meet this last weekend. First of all, I would like to extend a big thank you to Coach Luke who volunteered to be there to help out for the entire 20+ hours of swimming!
The Tritons had another great showing, with 24 swimmers we had 62 new personal best swims and 24 top 6 placements! I believe that ribbons will be sent in the mail for top 6, and I will place them in the swimmer mailbox once I receive them. (Also - I have upgraded the mailbox to keep things from slipping out, so it is back on the pool deck desk).
Just for context, there were over 500 swimmers in attendance at this meet, with some events having well over 150 entrants. This was one of the larger meets we attend each year, and was a very good experience for those that attended.
Congratulations to the new 2025 Y Regional Qualifying swims:
- Shelby Bahe in the 100 Fly and 200 IM
- Dima Lisitskiy in the 50 Fly
- Alex Lisitskiy in the 50 Breast and 50 Fly
- Ella Inman in the 200 IM
- Micah McNeil in the 200 IM, 100 Free, 100 Breast, 50 Breast, and 100 Back
- Katherine Van Dyk in the 200 IM and 100 Free
- Alex Van Dyk in the 50 Fly and 100 Free
- Eileen Munoz in the 500 Free and 50 Breast
Our biggest drop of the meet goes to Marie Long for dropping 18.08 in the 100 IM, way to go!
Information on Y Regionals
The 2025 YMCA Regional Championship will take place in Boise, Idaho on March 7-9. Time standards will be the same as the ones from last year, and can be found with this hyperlink.
More information (meet announcement and order of events) will be shared with everyone soon. Once it is, I will add it to the event calendar.
Swim Wear Ruling
Effective immediately, all PSSA swim meets will be more strictly enforcing swim wear restrictions as described in the USA Swimming rulebook under 205.10.1. There have been instances in YMCA swim meets where meet refs have been allowing swimmers to swim with extra clothing without penalty, and so the PSSA has decided to ask all coaches to inform their teams that this rule will be more strongly enforced. The current process to receive a swim wear exemption is to apply through the YMCA representative (Judy Sharky) or through the USA Swimming representative. Swimming outside of what is prescribed as swim wear will result in a disqualification much like any other stroke infraction; even if it doesn't truly provide any performance boost.
If you have any questions about this or about this process, please let me know and I am happy to answer any question.
Y State Attendance Requirement
Just like last year, Y State will have an attendance requirement. I have mentioned this to swimmers in practice, but I am not remembering if I had sent out a post about this since the summer. This year, the number was bumped up to 3 YMCA meets needing to be attended to be eligible to compete at Y State in January. This is because meets in the Spring/Summer prior to the Y State meet will now count towards that total amount.
An exemption may be applied for by each team's head coach, the most common reason being the conflicting high school season.
We have the following upcoming YMCA meets before Y State:
- Home meet on November 17th
- December 7th meet with the Snohomish YMCA
If swimmers are able to make at least 2 of our YMCA meets, I may be able to ask for an exemption, especially if a swimmer was unable to attend the Spring/Summer meets.
Trunk or Treat
Our annual Trunk or Treat and Halloween practice will be on October 30th (next Wednesday) this time around. Swimmers will be in the water from 4:30-6:00pm, please try to be there well before 5:00pm which is when we will finalize teams for our races! From 6:00pm-7:00pm we will have our Trunk-or-Treat event!
Please do join us and participate in the Trunk-or-Treat, it's a lot of fun and has been a blast each year! We park our decorated cars behind the pool doors, and swimmers walk around and collect goodies in decorated trunks. The more the merrier!
There are plenty of cool ideas floating around the internet, from people way more creative than I am. There were also fun and very impressive examples from those that attended last year!
Swimmers are encouraged to bring their costumes if they have them, but it's totally fine if they don't. Should just be a fun day!
2024 Poinsettia Fundraiser
We have our Poinsettia fundraiser going on now! We are in need of fundraising to help replace and repair our racing blocks - there are several that are significantly deteriorated and will be needing to be replaced as soon as possible. I am currently reaching out to see how much that would cost, but we will probably need to replace 6 fins. Any extra fundraising will help with our college scholarships that we award at the March banquet, and with other equipment repair and replacement needs for our swim team.
Other
Reminder that our home meet, "2025 Skagit Turkey Trot" has a registration deadline coming up on November 7th. Please declare if you will or will not be attending by then!
We will not have practice on the following days in November:
- November 11th - Veteran's Day
- November 28/29 - Thanksgiving weekend
Please let me know if you have any questions!
Joseph Shelly
