March Monthly Challenge - planning a dryland routine
Hi team!
Our March monthly challenge will be creating a quick dryland routine. We have an example/progression sheet that should cover all of the basics [linked here]
Each routine needs to cover the bolded exercise groups, picking at least one activity to do 3 sets of 10-20 reps in a day, or a mix of different levels that total the same amount. For example, I may choose to do 3x10 knee pushups, or I could do 1x10 incline pushups, 1x10 knee pushups, and 1x10 full pushups. Choose something that will be challenging, and don't be afraid to make things harder as time goes on.
This routine needs to be shared with me so that I can offer feedback! The monthly challenges for April and May will be checking up on the routine and keeping a log of activities. This is all about adhering to the core value of responsibility! It takes a responsible swimmer to keep themselves to a routine that they develop and to do their best to help their development outside of the pool.

Side note on monthly challenges:
I am looking to fully develop our monthly challenge system and integrate the Y Core values into them. I think that the direction we are taking with the monthly challenges will allow them to be something that motivates swimmers to build themselves outside of our practice times, and allow them to develop as better teammates and individuals. Some of the challenges that we had in the past (butterfly in jeans, 4 stroke breastroke) may have been a fun challenge, but always left me feeling like there should be a little bit more to it. On the flight back from Regionals, I started coming up with a list that I think will shape the future of our monthly challenge system into something that is better developmentally and are challenges that can be picked up at any experience level as long as the motivation is there.
I had also changed the rewards structure a while back; here is what is posted on the monthly challenges page:
"
If physical badges are awarded, they do not need to be turned in. Monthly challenges are tracked and the badges earned can be kept by the swimmer.
Monthly challenge numbers reset in August during the break. The 2024-2025 swim year will include May-July of last year since those were the first months this system was implemented!
