August 6th Update: Fall season info and important dates

Good morning Tritons,

Today is the last day before swim team goes on break! We had an awesome season, and again, thank you to everyone for your support and help. I appreciate how the team is growing and how our swim families are finding ways to support and keep our events and program running smoothly for the swimmers.

I got some information that I'd like to share so that everyone is on the same page and can be ready for the Fall. I may update this page as I get questions, or remember to add certain things - so please check back every so often!

Team Dinner / Meeting September 2nd

We will have a team dinner and meeting on September 2nd, the day before our first practice! All swimmers and families are invited - this will be a potluck (signup link here so we can see what each other are bringing). We will be meeting and eating from 5:00pm-6:30pm. We will be going over the season and team handbook/code of conduct as well. I am looking to reserve the Mount Baker Middle School Cafeteria, but will let you all know to confirm as soon as I know.

Updating the Record Board

I will have the online record board updated by today, though our physical boards will need updating! If there is anyone interested in helping update the board, please let me know. The company that made the record boards charge the team $20 per record sticker, and $5 per sticker after 5 purchases for one board (even though the boards and fonts are all the same, they do count as "different" boards). Last time we had a parent volunteer (Lacey Papendorf) graciously create over 40 stickers to help us update 2 years worth of records using a Cricut and vinyl stickers. If we are able to update our boards with the help of our families, the more the merrier.

I will try to bold the records that need to have updates on the online version when it is done being updated later today.

Membership/billing:

As we enter a new swim year, our USA Swimming memberships will soon be available for renewal. Once USA Swimming sends me our registration link, I will forward it to everyone. ALL swimmers must have a USA Swimming membership for insurance and sanctioning purposes (as we are a dually endorsed YMCA&USA team). I will include brief instructions on how to register/renew your USA membership once it is available.

Each swimmer is required to be a YMCA member. This can be through a family plan, or the swim team specific membership plan. Y membership can be purchased/changed at the front desk, and they will know all things membership (discounts, rates, etc.)

The annual registration fee is $50 "per account" rather than "per swimmer." More information can be found on our team handbook (electronic version currently being updated): https://www.gomotionapp.com/team/recpssvy/page/workshare/team-hand-book

If you are unsure what practice group your swimmer belongs to, please reach out to me! The practice schedule is up to date on our website, under the "About Us" tab.

Swim Team Gear list:

Here is a quick rundown of swim gear for each practice group:

Riptide Required Gear:

  • Fins
  • Snorkel

Tidal Wave Required Gear:

  • Fins
  • Snorkel

Tsunami Required Gear:

  • Fins
  • Snorkel
  • Hand paddles (optional, but encouraged)

Recommendations to specific types of gear can be found on our SwimOutlet store page here: https://www.swimoutlet.com/collections/svya

If you find a better deal elsewhere, you are totally welcome to shop around! If you are unsure if a certain piece of equipment is up to standard or is the correct type, please don't hesitate to ask me.

While we do have a fin bin, this is so that there are extras in case fins break / are lost and swimmers need to borrow for a while. I recommend getting your own gear, as there are only limited numbers of fins for each size. If your swimmer grows out of their fins, and there isn't a younger sibling that can take them - please consider donating them or giving them to a teammate!

Meet Calendar Updates

Our meet calendar will be updated as things pop up, but I do have the dates for Y State and Y Regionals ready! Once September rolls around and teams are back from break, we will see more information popping up.

As always, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out. I will be away during the break, so it might take more time than usual for me to respond, but I will try to get back to you as soon as possible.
