Aug 30 Update: Welcome Back and Swim Team Fall info!
Happy end of August Tritons!
We are getting closer to our first day back and we have a lot to go over for the fall season. Please review this email/newsletter and let me know if you have any questions:
Upcoming Important Dates/Events:
- September 2nd - all team meeting and potluck! Feel free to bring close family/friends as we celebrate returning to the pool. This isn't a super formal meeting, just a team dinner and I will talk about the season and what to expect.
- Where: Mount Vernon Library Commons, 208 W. Kincaid St. Mount Vernon, WA 98273
- When: 5:00pm - 7:00pm
- What: this will be a potluck (signup link here so we can see what each other are bringing)
- September 3rd - first day of practice
- September 28th - first swim meet back with Snohomish YMCA
- October 11th - PSSA swim meet at Hazen
More events will be placed on our calendar as I finalize the plans - I will keep you all updated as we go along!
Swim Team Gear list:
Here is a quick rundown of swim gear for each practice group:
Riptide Required Gear:
- Fins
- Snorkel
Tidal Wave Required Gear:
- Fins
- Snorkel
Tsunami Required Gear:
- Fins
- Snorkel
- Hand paddles (optional, but encouraged)
Recommendations to specific types of gear can be found on our SwimOutlet store page here: https://www.swimoutlet.com/collections/svya
If you find a better deal elsewhere, you are totally welcome to shop around! If you are unsure if a certain piece of equipment is up to standard or is the correct type, please don't hesitate to ask me.
While we do have a fin bin, this is so that there are extras in case fins break / are lost and swimmers need to borrow for a while. I recommend getting your own gear, as there are only limited numbers of fins for each size. If your swimmer grows out of their fins, and there isn't a younger sibling that can take them - please consider donating them or giving them to a teammate!
Membership/billing:
As we enter a new swim year, our USA Swimming memberships will soon be available for renewal. Once USA Swimming sends me our registration link, I will forward it to everyone. ALL swimmers must have a USA Swimming membership for insurance and sanctioning purposes (as we are a dually endorsed YMCA&USA team). I will include brief instructions on how to register/renew your USA membership once it is available.
Each swimmer is required to be a YMCA member. This can be through a family plan, or the swim team specific membership plan. Y membership can be purchased/changed at the front desk, and they will know all things membership (discounts, rates, etc.)
The annual registration fee is $50 "per account" rather than "per swimmer." More information can be found on our team handbook: https://www.gomotionapp.com/team/recpssvy/page/workshare/team-hand-book
I should have sent out emails to those that have swimmers moving up/promoting, if you have questions about changing rosters - please reach out to me as soon as you can.
See you all soon!
