2025 Skagit YMCA Spooktacular and lifeguarding classes
Hi all!
Passing along an upcoming Skagit YMCA event - you may have already received an email about this from our marketing team, but they did reach out to us specifically asking for potential swimmer-volunteers. I don't believe they have exact times yet, but I see 12pm-8pm blocked off on the admin event calendar (so sometime between then).
They are looking for responsible volunteers ages 12&O to help keep ducks swimming the right path in the lazy river and to help keep pumpkins in the right area in the teaching pool.
They are also looking for swimmers that would want to participate in a potential pumpkin relay race. More info on that coming soon.
Please let me know if you/your swimmer are interested in any of the above!
Here is what was sent out by our marketing team about the Spooktacular:
"
Dear Skagit Y Community,
Welcome to a new week!
We’re thrilled to announce our annual Halloween Spooktacular carnival event is returning on October 18 this year! Join us for an evening of Halloween fun: carnival games and activities, prizes, candy, and pumpkins! Plus, we’ll have community resource booths at the event from organizations like Sea Mar, MVPD, and Skagit Transit.
This event is FREE and open to the public and registration is not required.
Interested in Volunteering? We’d love to have additional hands on deck to make this event run smoothly! Volunteer roles include set-up/take-down, running a game/activity, and more. Email Charlotte at [email protected] or visit this page to learn more.
"
They are also offering lifeguarding classes to those age 15 and up:
"
Become Lifeguard Certified this October
Become a certified lifeguard October 10-12 at the Y through our Lifeguarding course in partnership with the American Red Cross. You’ll learn to prevent, recognize, and respond to emergencies in both shallow and deep water, plus provide professional care for breathing, cardiac emergencies, injuries, and sudden illnesses until EMS arrives.
Interested but concerned about training costs? Join our team! We may cover your training and hire you. Email [email protected] to find out about available shifts and paid training opportunities.
To enroll, you must be at least 15 years old before the last class and pass a prerequisite swimming skills test on the first in-person session. Start your journey to protecting others today!
"
Lifeguarding is a step many of our swimmers take in getting valuable job experience to put on a resume. I'm always happy to be a reference to any of our swim team kids if they need one!
The Skagit Y's Spooktacular is an event that counts towards the Tritons Challenge; volunteers will receive a point for helping out!
