A Meets: Dual and Divisional

Dual Meets

Saturday morning dual meet results are calculated into divison standings. The Head Coach will determine the line up for the A meets based on times recorded at Time Trials, A and B meets. The line up will be emailed to Charger team members. Families must notify the head coach of their swimmer’s availability to participate by using the online tools in their family account. A “NO/Decline” is just as important as a “YES/Committed” because it allows the coach to plan strategically and avoid costly scratches that could result in lost points for the team and opportunities for a teammate. Declare your swimmer’s availability to participate each week, or you can simplify your life and declare your swimmer’s availability for the entire season at the beginning of the summer. Be aware that line-ups change weekly.

Deadline for declaring participation in a Saturday A meet is no later than 12:00 pm on Thursday prior to the meet.
A Meets (HOME*) start at 9:00 am. Swimmers report for warm-ups no later than 7:45 am for HOME A meets.
A meets (AWAY) start 9:00 am. Arrive at opponent’s pool no later than 8:00 am; Enter together @ 8:05 am.

*Additional/earlier warm up time is available on the mornings of home meets. Please see Coach Tony

Divisional Meets

A Relay Carnival. All six division teams enter one team per event in a meet comprised entirely of relays, including same/mixed age groups, gender, and stroke. There are a total of 22 events. The head coach determines who will swim in the A Relay Carnival based on times achieved throughout the swim season.

Divisional Championships. The top two swimmers per event and age group are selected and entered in the meet by each team's head coach. All six teams in the division compete. Medals are awarded for first, second and third, ribbons for fourth through sixth places.

B-Meets

B Meets are held on Wednesday evenings. All team members are eligible to swim in Wednesday meets, except individuals may not swim in events they swam in the prior week’s A meet where they scored points (finished 1-5th). Also, if they swam 3 or more individual events in the prior A meet, they may only swim “exhibition” in the events they did not swim, or did not score points in. Swimmer/s must be legal, or near legal, in a stroke to swim that event. You must must notify the head coach that your child wants to participate by using the online tools in your family account. Failure to declare your availability by Monday at 8:00 pm means your child will not swim in the Wednesday B meet. If you miss the deadline, speak to the head coach asap.

Deadline for declaring participation in a Wednesday B meet is no later than 8:00 pm on Monday prior to the meet.
B Meets (HOME)    Start 6:00 pm. Swimmers report for warm ups no later than 4:45 pm for HOME B meets.
B meets (AWAY)    Start 6:00 pm. Arrive at opponent’s pool no later than 5:00 pm; Enter together @ 5:05 pm.

Calverton Mini Meet Invitational

The Calverton Chargers participates in an annual 8 & Under Mini Meet, a fabulous opportunity for Pre-Team and Mini-Bolts to show off their newly aquired swim skills and experience competition (often for the first time). Participants receive certificates and popsicles presented by Pre-team Coach and assistants in a post-meet awards cermony.
Participation in the Mini Meet is by coach’s invitation.

Time Trials

Time trials are important because it gives the coaches a baseline from which to measure each swimmer’s progress for the season. Time trials also gives new swimmers and their families an opportunity to see what a meet is like. We need 18 timers to cover all 6 lanes, so please come prepared to grab a stop watch and cheer. GO Chargers!

Missing a Meet

If you are scheduled to swim in a meet but are unable to participate for any reason (illness, vacation, etc.) you must notify the head coach as soon as possible. Failing to show up, or leaving early, causes the team to lose points and often means losing the meet. We respectfully ask that you make every effort to avoid vacations during swim season if possible. If travel is inevitable, small schedule adjustments such as delaying departure until after a Saturday morning swim meet can sometimes make a difference in a win/loss for the team.
