THE DAMASCUS DOLPHINS

INDIVIDUAL ALL STAR RECAP

Clay Sebring

Note to the recap: our 4 alternate swims did not get a chance to swim due to the seeded peeps all showing up to swim, so Laney Derrenbacher (free & back), Colin Nguyen (free) and Sadie Hebert (IM) did not swim those events.

Drew Beabout started us off with 15-18 100 IM with a blistering start and he didn't let up, dropping a full-second to 1:01.49 just 0.68 seconds away from our 22-year old team record of 1:00.81 and going from the 15th seed to 9th place!

Then Carly Sebring, doing what Carly does... takes first place in the girls 15-18 100 IM! In an amazing display of beautiful swimming strokes, dropping 1.6 seconds on the season. We all stared in awe as she went a 1:04.21, just 0.20 off her team record and leaving the field in her wake!

Next, Drew was back up for 15-18 100 free, seeded 10th, and swam another great race finishing 6th with a personal best time of 54.50 (exactly 1-second away from our team record of 53.50).

Then to keep the great swims rolling, Maddie Inman swam an unbelievable 13-14 Girls Backstroke dropping 1.03 seconds to a personal best time 30.36 AND FIRST PLACE FINISH!!! Sweeping the County titles as Longcourse and All-Start Individual Champion in the Girls 13-14 Backstroke this season!

Caleb Griffith then started the second half of the meet cruising to a held position of 14th in an extremely fast field of 8&under Breaststrokers with his second best time of the season! He's 7 folks! 7!! More to come.

Colin Nguyen, however, DID get to swim 50 Breaststroke! And boy, did he ever... dropping 1.10 seconds to a personal best 38.87 moving up 3 spots from his 14th seed to 11th place! with another strong dolphin performance.

Caleb Davis followed-up Colin's strong boys breaststroke with one of his own! Another personal best time! moving from 16th seed to 14th place with a jaw-dropping 34.02 (knocking 0.36 of his previous best)

Maddie was back up to do Butterfly poised for another MCSL win! This time as the 4th seed but her field seemed ready for her attack... but they didn't see the judo-chop coming!! She attacked from the start, only to be out-touched by 0.11 from first place. Still though - 2nd in the whole county is pretty good! Don't ya think? She slashed to another personal best time dropping 1.30 seconds on the season to an astonishing 29.15!

Then, in the last event of the day... last heat of the day... the Dolphins had not 1, but 2 phenominal SENIOR ladies in the 50 Butterfly! Sensational Sadie was seeded 8th and swam her BEST ever 50 fly race to date, tearing down the pool and beating her previous best by 0.40 to an all-time best 29.54 and 7th place finish! As Carly, in that same heat, seeded 2nd and was absolutely NOT going to be denied as champion in her last MCSL race of her career... she went on to her season best AND breaking the 28.00 barrier once again setting a NEW Damascus Dolphin 15-18 team record at 27.89! Congratulations!

How's that for a season ending meet? 10 swims - 9 personal best times - 3 first place Champions - 1 new Team Record!

PRIDE is all I can muster write now as in type these last few words with welled-up eyes... Sadie and Carly are two dynamic swimmers who have graced us with amazing skills and character for 12+ years and their competive fires were blazing in the final MCSL swims of their careers. We were ALL so lucky to be a part of their summer swim journies and now sadden that those fires are put out. You make us SO proud to be Damascus Dolphins! We love you and wish you the best at Salisbury and Penn State!

Signing off - one Proud Head Coach!
