Please note that in order to be a Junior Coach you must be registered as a swimmer and an active member of the Swim Team.
Roles and Responsibilities
General
- Must be 15 year of age
- Must have, or commit to have, lifeguard certification by the start of the season
- Must be a member of the Swim Team for at least 1 year
- Must demonstrate proficiency in all 4 swim strokes
- Must demonstrate a desire to help and mentor young kids
- Must demonstrate the attitude and maturity to command the respect of other swimmers
- Desire opportunity to gain coaching experience necessary for higher level coaching position
- Must be an ACTIVE member of the Swim Team, which means attending your own practices and swimming in meets
Practice
- Roll call
- Lead stretching as directed by coach
- Make sure all equipment (lane lines, kickboards etc) is ready for practice
- Be available to demonstrate stroke/technique as directed by coach
- Aid coaches in keeping swimmers focused on practice
- Set up pool area after practice as it was before practice started
- Be a positive role model for other swimmers
- Provide positive feedback/encouragement to all swimmers
- Be available to aid both Mini-Rays and Stingrays as needed
Wednesday Night Meets
- Get swim team area set up and make sure kids go to our swim area
- Aid all swimmers in race preparation (ie: cap, goggles, etc.)
- Observe 10 and under races and offer suggestions as directed by head coach
- Make sure team cleans up trash before they leave
- Escort 10 and under swimmers as needed to the clerk of course
- Organize and supervise poster making and team spirit events
- Lead chants and cheers
Saturday Meets
- Lead chants/cheers
- Lead stretching as directed by coach
- Help kids get to clerk of course
- Aid all swimmers in race preparation (ie: cap, goggles, etc.)
- Make sure team cleans up trash before they leave
